Ive now cut off the cooling flaps on the cowling , leaving a piece at the top where the intake scoop will be . The flaps will be replaced with individual ones made from either plastic card or aluminium ( cat food carton) . The area under the cowl flaps has been extended with plastic card and the step filled with superglue and talcum powder mixed up together. This has been sanded now and is ready for the next step - the exhausts. Ive also re scribed the cowling access panels and filled in the three machine gun ports C2440DB9-677A-45D4-A8F1-FCC5B22EBFCF.jpeg8417493D-7D8C-4C37-B8C6-F7466C67CC82.jpegA559C05C-5810-4FA1-A5AD-A75F04B3B0C0.jpeg87803E91-EAF5-436B-81C2-8F7FBB5B313B.jpeg6C3CAC31-36C2-4836-B49E-3FD987DF676E.jpeg

All looking good.

Hi Tony
All looks pretty drastic but you seem to have it all onder control.

This is serious stuff.........good to see some chopping, hacking and a marriage of parts that weren't meant for each other....'Tis a beautiful thing :smiling3: Nice work Tony. Rick H.

A tribute in deed to Simon .
Has everything that he was well known for .

Got the cowling panels scribed and added some retaining latches . The engine cooling fan at the front was made from an old jet turbine compressor from the spares box , cut down to fit . 9AED83B9-9399-4330-B83F-1F71E5934CA7.jpegA587D8F8-0830-4D76-97CA-0B471B806815.jpeg

engine cowling is now primed and ready for fitting, the cooling flaps will be added after. I had to make the exhausts, so started by making a groove with the motor tool ( nail polisher ) then it was out with the wine foil . I cut two T shapes that were superglued on after pressing them to shape into the aforementioned groove . The intake on top of the fuselage has been started by cutting the kit intake scoop and thinning with the motor tool , this will be added and filled after the cowling has been fitted.EF6BAB97-3151-4E0C-8717-FA1E4268E959.jpegAADD4C69-CD5A-460E-9621-12D211361985.jpeg55A9C06E-F717-49A7-8132-7039521375AB.jpeg772004BD-7525-4EA1-A4C2-5174D2A3E63E.jpegA2A64440-81D4-4F28-A2AE-9808D252A75E.jpeg0FF70116-DC33-4F7D-98FF-DF6E3DA2C325.jpeg44D58C53-B453-4BF0-BA17-D09DC374FA49.jpegB2B3ACB6-A5AF-4D54-8DEB-84BC0EA5FF95.jpegE14FB77B-D27F-4701-AAC1-D3FB109F21E6.jpeg

Tony, that is simply gorgeous! The heat shields for the exhaust came out the Bomb.......nice thing about wine bottle foil is its workability....some of it is even laminated so you can split it and come up with some very thin sheet material for delicate jobs.
Really comes in handy for making rifle slings. I look forward to what you have in store for us next. Rick H.

Merry Christmas!

Fine work! I find myself considering whether the things I recycle could be better utilised elsewhere!

Got the engine fitted now and glued the intake on top of the fuselage . The intake will need a bit of fettling and a smear of filler once its set . 3188B7A4-30B2-4AC6-B7BE-5C60800C9B1A.jpegD3C0136A-06F5-42B6-B03B-E1676897198A.jpeg

Tony. Outstanding work!! Dicing and slicing a Aircraft is not a easy task to do but looks like you have mastered it. Great job!

Engine now done and fitted , intake scoop filled and all primed. The cooling gills will be added after ive sorted the wing joints out to avoid knocking them off . Speaking of the wings , a trial fit showed they were very close to the cooling gills on the engine ( overlapping in fact ) . The few photos of the m82 Il2 include a close up of this area which shows a gap between the cooling gills and the leading edge of the wing. After studying plenty of plans and photos i concluded the wing in the kit was about 5 mm too far forward . On plans a straight line drawn between the port and starboard wing lights should fall exactly on the front of the sliding canopy section , the kit had this line at the front of the windscreen. Luckily it was an easy fix as the wings have the fillet moulded on , instead of moulded to the fuselage as is normally the case. So it was simply a case of taking 5mm off the rear of the wing locating tab and fixing them further back . The rear will need a little blending but no big deal.9777A9C4-D8A4-4080-A342-97BFCB292B83.jpeg2FC68DE1-A16E-4648-BBE7-FD9A3E82A802.jpegFD890DA3-9123-4F5F-8A63-DDA0BC3AC4CC.jpeg
