Wings fit ok on top , but not so hot underneath , so out with the putty . While i was at it I built up the rear of the wing fillet which was a tad short due to me moving the wings back 5mm . Once this has been sanded I can get the tailplanes on ( if i put them on now theyll get in the way of the big sanding job on the wings) and start looking at the canopy . Im going to have to make a new rear section , probably crash moulding it .

The neatly applied putty has now been sanded :smiling5:. The extended wing fillets came out ok too , and the joints have all had a quick brush over with grey to see if any more work needs to be done , its looking ok so far . The tailplanes and undercarriage nacelle fronts have also been glued , so its onto the canopy next. 
Nice putty work. That must have taken a while! Worth the effort though.
Now the airframes together and just about ready for primer its time to look at the canopy . The M-82 canopy is shorter and a different shape to the later , production, two seater . The kit supplies 2 canopies , long and short , but neither has the rear shape needed for this aircraft . The front and middle sections are the same so its a case of chopping off the rear and making a new section . I cut off the rear section of the shorter canopy and after wrapping it in tape filled it with milliput.After sanding to shape this will hopefully give me a former of the right shape to crash mould a new rear section .

Finally got round to having a go at making the rear canopy. The previously seen Milliput former was sanded to shape and mounted on a stick . I sourced various pieces of clear plastic ranging from washing up bottles to yoghurt pot lids and started to experiment . I cut a hole in a piece of 6mm MDF ( anything will do -ply , thin wood etc ) and fastened the pieces of clear plastic to this with a couple of bulldog clips 
I then fastened the heat gun in the vice and with the lowest setting heated up the plastic and when soft enough plunged the former through. This took multiple attempts and various different types of plastic until I got something i was happy with . The upshot is that the washing up liquid and stardrops spray bottles are not ideal , being too thick and curling up and going milky or developing air bubbles when heated. The other plastics i tried ( yoghurt pot lid and plastic packaging that the resin exhaust for the starfighter came in ) were much better and i got several that could be used.
The relevant sections were cut off and cut down bit by bit with a lot of trial fitting until i was happy with the fit . The rear has a cut out for the gun so this was carefully marked and cut out before masking the clear section . The front part of the canopy ( kit supplied ) was glued on first with AK ultra glue then ,once firm enough to be handled ,the rear section stuck on with superglue . The edges will need a little filling but most of this rear section is painted anyway.

Cheers neil , youre bang on with the plastic , although ive had some decent results in the past with bottles , the packaging seems to be the best bet , cheers tony
