Ilyushin Il2 -m82 , cut’n’shut ( simon T tribute gb)

Hi Tony
All that putty work has turned out really well. As has been said it must have been a long job. Very interesting to see how the canopy was made.

That is modelling at its finest. I can't wait to see the finished 'plane.

Bit more done today . This version had a lengthened tail wheel fairing which needed making so I cut a piece of thin aluminium ( an old venetian blind slat ) to a rounded V shape and bent it round a paintbrush handle . This has now been stuck on with ca . Ive also masked the canopy and given the whole airframe a coat of Halfords grey primer. When this is dry I should be able to see if the airframe, and particularly the canopy ,needs any more work . 6004EC30-17DA-4821-B6C0-C2459A9D6960.jpeg621EF22C-6985-41E6-8DC9-121FB1C92E70.jpeg3B643735-E55B-4E2F-91BB-4421D2CF5D44.jpeg

Well it finally happened ! The two square inches of clear bench i was using succumbed to the inevitable advance of clutter and the workspace was lost . So after a forced tidy up i got some more done on the il2 . The cooling flaps on the engine were cut from plastic card and fixed to the rear of the cowling . The grey primer coat showed up any areas that needed further attention such as the joint on the canopy and around the rear wheel fairing. After sorting these with a smear of vallejo putty the whole thing was given a coat of matt black u.m.p. Primer ready for the top colours .68D3678D-EF9B-49D9-ABF8-0A747144AEC6.jpegE14110A9-97F8-47F9-AF71-D1CCD3FBE952.jpegB4C376DF-2DAA-4513-8A56-E253A91AF96D.jpegF30C4106-B67C-48F6-AC68-360A1FD40169.jpeg

Hi Tony
No doubt about it this is the sort of build Simon would have taken on. Every little issue you come across you sort it :thumb2: Neatly done as well.
Jim

Cracking work Tony, with the high standard of work going into this Tony, just think what you could do to a Airfix 1/24 Spitfire haha.

The canopy worked out and some great tips on making them, thanks Tony.

However, the shot of your bench upsets me. I’m beginning to wonder if I need an examination...

Bottom colour on , A11 light blue ,and after drying and white tack /masking up ,the top colour - AMT 4 . Note the replacement cooling flap still to be painted , the original disappeared somewhere along the line. Next is a very light weathering / shading then i can think about getting the decals on which are very simple ,just 6 red stars outlined in black and no bort number. These will be sourced from the spares box as the kit only supplies the later red/ white outline/ red stars . 6B85AA3D-851B-4407-802E-D686592D23E7.jpegD4052B0B-BE08-4805-893B-523C26DA50C3.jpeg5F6FDD55-C0B8-49F1-8E13-22F77EAA9331.jpeg

Nice work Tony........too bad about the wayward cowl flap. They have a way of turning up when least expected.

Cheers rick , the funny thing is i didnt notice it was missing until after i had sprayed the green , but if you look in the pics its missing before - it must have got knocked off during the masking up

Heart warming pictures of your bench Tony, another who ends up exactly like me :thumb2:

Hi Tony
That is a nice paint job. Shows how well you have done all the cutting and filling. The decals will bring this alive. Definitely the kind of work Simon would have approved of.
