Yesterday when doing my first paint job one of the things I messed up with was when dropping the paint from the paint tin into the jar of my spraygun. Although I have some pipettes I din't want to use them cause I thought the enamel paint wouldn't ever came out ruining the pipettes...

After a bit os searching over the net I got this great tip of using straws for that purpose. So I got some straws.

Also, when reading the posts about Klear for canopies I learned a lot about these products...

Finally, now when I need to do something in my models I am always searching for new ideas (and cheaper ones) other than just look for the manufacturers products...

Is this also what modelling is all about? be creative when in need of new "tools"?

Definitely! Everyone is on a budget and I know I'm always keen to save a bob or two. There's a good thread on this forum somewhere which shows just how inventive modellers can be when they think they'll save a bit of money.

Absolutely, and although theres a wealth of knowledge out there regarding money saving hints and tips theres always something new and you're just as likely to discover a new hint or tip as anyone else.

The Klear one for example, I mean, who on earth thought, 'hmmm, I wonder what'll happen to my clear canopies if I dip them in this floor polishing stuff?'

So enjoy your modelling and share any useful stuff you find.

It's one of the biggest buzzes you can get from modelling, coming up with a new tool or cheaper and better way of doing something. We all use tools in completely different ways when it suits us and get creative when we see a need. It can be just as rewarding as the modelling itself.

In the link give, I couldn't see any reference to toothpicks and these are for sure one of the great tools ever

Come to think, so many tools we can do with a molded wire ... hum...to be investigated.

Anyone knows a good and cheap matt finish coat to be used when everything is done in a military vehicle? In different words, a "matt Klear" kind of product?

Hi guys,

I know it's quite cheap but why waste money in a mixing pallete if you can enjoy building your own and use the money for other stuff?...especially nice if you wear contact lenses ))

Thought I would share this with you. All you need is a "base" and some lenses boxes.

Sorry I have to be formal AFC, nice tip, but better and cheaper still:

Pound shop or Cost Cutter ice cube making trays!! Saves making a base too...

Another option with a paint pallete cover it with tin foil , after a days mixing and painting on the bench throw it away and you still have a brand new pallete , and yet another option is medical measuring pots I went on ebay and got about 30 60mm pots for £2.50 and they have the ml chart on the side which is ideal for exact mixes

We have a coffee/espresso machine that uses the coffee pods, these are packed in a little plastic dish with a foil lid. I now have a plastic carrier bag stuffed full of them. Cheapest mixing dish I've ever found!

And the coffee is fantastic!
