Heres one ive done before , the Italeri mc202 Folgore . Its not exactly a new tooling ( 2001) but is reasonably detailed and has recessed panel lines . I’ll be using Eduard belts but thats it for aftermarket stuff . I’ll be doing the overall green with sand splodges as ive got another subject waiting in the wings thats going to be getting the smoke ring treatment ( 1/32 mc205 veltro ).

Started with the cockpit today . Its detailed enough considering its a very small opening and not much will be seen , even with the open ( sideways hinged ) canopy . First job was to sort the two ejector pin marks on the sidewalls . A quick scrape and some tiny strips of plastic card and they were done .The seat had a poor attempt at the strange italian chain type harness moulded on ,along with another ejector pin mark so this was ground off and an Eduard seat harness used instead .The sidewalls and floor were done in anti corrosion green with the seat , control column and fuselage stringers in silver . The instrument panel was painted black and had two decals to apply .
The fuselage halves have now been glued together .

Yes , I considered cutting it off and adding it last but it seemed quite strong so decided to risk it -theres plenty of time yet for it to get knocked off !

Been playing around regarding the camo scheme . Rather than spraying overall green and trying to paint the sand splodges I’m going to spray the sand first then mask the splodges and spray the green. I got a wing from the spares box and gave it a coat of sand , then applied some random splodges of Copydex . I also wanted to test if the glue would react with the paint . Once it had dried I sprayed the green and then later rubbed off the Copydex . It gave the result I wanted although as this was a quick test it isnt as neat as it will be when I do it on the macchi .

Yes its still available neil - and stinks as bad as you remember!

I wonder if ordinary PVA would work as well?
There's a nice randomness to the blotches... Just thinking (aloud) a stippling brush might soften the edges a little...

Have to try that...

That looks effective. and as you could probably paint the copydex on, it could be effective in multiple ways.
