My contribution to this GB. A very old kit, ex-Italeri moulds with dodgy decals as you expect from an Airfix box with that yellow in the logo.

They're looking a bit fragile. Airfix at this time were not known for good decals, but at least it's not printed on that terrible brown backing paper.

I made a start, just following the instruction sheet at this stage, ensuring that all the necessary holes are drilled for later. I'll paint the interior using basic colours, but won't be adding detail to the cabin as the rear ramp will be closed. Interestingly the pilot seats have belts moulded onto them, which is nice.
A dry fit of the fuselage is promising, but being an Italeri mould I know there will be some filling required.

Nice start joe , youre right about the dodgy decal phase of Airfix , the decals were terrible at this time , usually very fragile and quite see through , often taking ages to release from the backing paper too. Kit looks quite good though

Cheers Tony. The worst versions were the ones printed on the brown backing paper. These could be okay, but they are thin. I'll give them a spray of decal bonder. The kit feels nice for its age, well and truly superseded these days by the modern Airfix offering.
Not too much to see, given my divided time today with another project, other than the interior has received its main colour of ocean grey (Mr Color). Once the cockpit has been detail painted I'll be pretty much able to zip the Chinook up.
So far so good. I'm sure this venerable kit will throw up some challenges but nothing you can't sort. Good luck with the decals. Are there suitable after market decals available?

Finished the interior off with acrylic paints. As I said, no effort to detail the main cabin, as the ramp will be closed.
The fuselage was then mated.

Got the lower fuselage fitted, prepared some parts for assembly, and spent a few hours masking the cockpit glazing. The nose fits nicely onto the clear part. The fit of the assembly to the fuselage is going to be a little troublesome, as the top of it sits slightly proud.

Filler applied around the glazing in an effort to deal with the step. Also the fit of the rear tail section isn't great. The landing gear stubs and lower aerials are fitted, so at least it now sits on the bench safely.
