Joe's Tamiya 1/72 FW190D-9

Nice one joe , if its anything like their 109s it will be an absolute joy to build

Cheers Tony. Perhaps shockingly, it's my first Tamiya kit, I'm already impressed with the minimal parts count for what it is, the clear instruction sheet, and the quality of the plastic.

Thanks Jim. Garry is also doing a larger scale 190D, so there's at least two of them floating about here

I made a start on the interior. The usual RLM66 with a pale grey dry brush.

So tiny. I was in doubt whether or not to use the decals for the straps and instrument panel. I did in the end, and I am glad I did because I learned that these particular Tamiya decals are quite thin and Decalfix causes them to explode when positioned. I managed to piece the decals together, lesson learned. Glad I did this on the cockpit decals and not on the main event.

Everything just falls in to place, this is a wonderful kit; very impressed with the Tamiya quality. I used only a slither of putty where the nose area joins the main wing, and two small marks on the leading edges of the wings where I removed them from the sprues. After decades of battling 'simple' builds, this is a dream. I'm sold.

And having said that, everything went together quickly and here we are ready for primer. I got carried away and forgot to take any other photos. The only sub-assemblies to go on are the landing gear and the propeller.

Great progress Joe 👍

Glad you spotted the decal issue before starting on the main ones.

Geoff.
