I think the moral of the story is buy the kit, assess it, and then by PE if necessary. I am the biggest culprit of buying everything at the same time. Great work again Trey. Derek

Patrick thanks! Si much appreciated ! Joe agree that's the standard but this pic I found appears to have a black underside what do you think? Ian M thank you for the insightful input agree totally. Peter thanks, the Elves are now trying to Unionize and demand overtime, gonna have to make a deal. Ian,Gavin thank you both kindly. Derek that pretty much nails it,thanks!

As stated above I did manage to find this one decent pic and it appears the undersides are black? Anyone have better documentation or can confirm?

The build progress is plugging along ,the wing test fit is typical DML , good but not great

View attachment 98985

I've found its easier to put the cowl bases on and sort the small fit issues along the leading wing edge before fitting the wings.

As I've found on the earlier 88 builds its obvious by the nice fit of the A-4/6 bits that this is the original mold, and the C/G components are the later add ons with the more ill fitting components. I use gap filling ca and a file to correct the gaps.

Nice progress Trey, they're looking clean and sharp. I agree, the underside in that photo does look black. I looked up 'Ju88 C Balloon cutter' and they appear mainly in either the standard day scheme or with a dark underside which I presume was black.

Joe thanks, really thinking a black underside might be correct . Looking closely at the picture it seems a hasty field application and its not complete, some 'lighter' areas are apparently still there. What to do.what to do?

Steve , Jim thank you both appreciate the support!

IP's are in,not sure the G is %100 accurate but I like it better than the PE on the A for some reason. I'll start working on the canopies next

Hey Trey, found the Hasegawa version of this kit (kit no. 01999) and the underside is black in their instructions. So if you wanted a black underside that can be correct. It may well have been applied in the field as with so many schemes, so it may not have been applied as neatly as it would have in the factory. I think if it was my build I would just go for a nice neat black demarcation.

Thanks Joe great find ,think its black for sure then!

I'm moving onto the Canopies but first wanted to figure a better way to do the chutes for the spent cartridges. I found that a hair tie works great, just base it with a medium to dark brown. Do'nt worry if a little fuzz stands up ,when I dry brushed the white to high light the ribs the fuzz layed right down.

Fitting the chutes and ammo feed belts was a chore ! I've never found a picture of where the chute winds up so I'm just leaving them flush with the office floor.

I've masked up the canopy, not impressed with the lack of fit with the Montex, will be going back to the Eduard ones in the future. The A will be delayed while I wait for the Eduard mask to arrive

I'll be focusing on the Engine nacelles next. Looking at the picture of the real one ,the exhaust cover shield extensions are not that long ,they will be cut off after the glue sets.

The radiator cowls had really deep heat sinks, thankfully I had some better ones in the spares bin!

Stuuning work so far, those offices look very good but the PE does add a little extra.

Nice to see them looking like JU 88's now Trey! You're putting a hell of a lot of great work into these builds buddy :)

David, Patrick , Barry, Tommy thanks for the kind words and support, I know this is starting to run long but I'm trying to wrap it up.

I got the Resin props for the G and the jig will also be of use for other 3 blade builds.

Now I've run into another issue, the kits engines are not correct for the A-6 as they are based on the A-4 which has the 211J. The A-6 according to my research was based on the A-5 which had the 211G hence no lower cowl bulge and no lower intake opening in the front. Options build a what if or do some surgery. I inventoried my spares bin and decided I had enough parts on hand for some surgery to correct the issue. Now for a battle of the bulge so to speak!

After cutting away the incorrect parts I squared everything up to make it a little easier to fit the new parts. Then removed the parts I needed from the donor bits from the spares bin

I spent about 2 hours doing the conversion and think it was worth the effort, what do you all think? Heres a before and after

Now I notice the props are the thin chord not the VS-11 as supplied in the kit arrrrrgh will this ever end! This shows I need to do better research before taking on a new build.
