I haven't made an aircraft kit for ages so....

I bought this 1/72 Japanese aircraft at Cosford last year, so I reckon it's about time it was built.

I'm not doing the pattern on the box art, but an alternative one on the instruction leaflet....Gawd help me!

I'm going to try and model it going for the Carrier.....sort of.

I've omitted pictures of the building of the sparse cockpit. So here's where I'm up to....Simple kit, but excellent all round fit.

Because of the awkward cammo., I've had to prime the aircraft in Vallejo white primer, using my usual flat headed paint brush. Then I can see better where to mark out the pattern. Same method as the Patton tank.

Thanks for looking in.

Thanks Ian.

After marking out the pattern, I painted the aircraft using both a small flat headed and 00 pointed brushes. I used Humbrol silver enamel, overpainted with Vallejo Model Colour acrylics.

Due to the complicated in and out of the pattern, I had to paint it all free-hand.

Because the Kate is on a one way trip, I've removed the rear machine gun, the other two crew members and anything else not required. It wouldn't have been equipped with a torpedo, as per box art, so I will see if I have a suitable bomb which I can sling underneath the aircraft.

Next up, the decals and see if any paint needs touching up.

Fantastic painting Ron and with an hairy stick to boot.
Which Carrier are you building to go with it Ron. :)

Thanks for the compliment, Ian. I appreciate it

The carrier is already part built. It's been sitting in a box in the loft slowly disintegrating, but now it has a new lease of life. Not strictly historically accurate, but it will serve a purpose.

Thanks for your interest and hopefully, see you at Cosford......:)

This is a classic aircraft but the artwork is beautiful Ron. I have the Airfix pearl harbour set which has the 1/72 BN51 in it I think. I take me hat off to ya for brush painting too as that detailed pattern looks really impressive.
Love working with Vallejo paints too

Great work

Regards

Robert

All looking very nice. Just last night I painted the Airfix new tool B5N1. We might have two finished at the same time if I can speed up a bit.

Thanks boys....

Colin, this old kit, although a great fit, is very poor on detail. I suspect yours will be far, far, better and I await the reveal!

Luckily, with what I have planned for my offering there won't be much left of it to compare our respective kits side by side.......Having seen your superb aircraft builds it's just as well really!

Oooo I'm getting all excited Ron. It's looking good.
Yes I will hopefully see you at Cosford.
