.I think you will find it is Candy Apple over a Silver/Glitter Basecoat. Often called Metalflake.

If you don't know what candy Apple is, it is a translucent paint that relies on:

(1) The basecoat showing through

(2) How many coats of the candy apple you apply.

The more you apply, the deeper the colour gets, but still allows the basecoat to glitter through.

These are available from www.specialistpaints.com

They even do them in small pots for use in airbrushes.

Hoping this helps

Well no pics tonight done some work on the engine (none of the parts fit properly) there is no radiator or hoses in the kit. I am fed up I don't seem to be able to build a decent kit anymore the Batmobile is rubbish the titanic is still nowhere near done the Halifax is turning out to be rubbish as is the C17. Seriously thinking of giving up on this modeling lark. Not that good at it in the first place but if I can't even build them to a standard I'm happy with what's the point.

I think you maybe being too hard on yourself, I for one think the Monkee build is looking awesome.

The paint finish is first class, and the build looks to be coming along nicely.

Know what you mean about getting frustrated though, that's why I put my 'AA' build to the back of the cupboard! :( :(

My solution is to take a break for a short while. But that's probably why I take so long to complete anything;) ;)

I agree with Gregg, and think your being to hard on your shelf, and you know we are your owe

worst critics, at the best of times,

and i think we all go through the same stage, I did with the color of Martha, and Mr Tenners face,

was not happy for weeks with what i had done,  :(

but once showen hear and got great comments all was well,

I wish i could get a great gloss finish on a car or some think, but never works for me,

you have done a great job ,just dont let it get you down you do great work, and always look forward

to seeing more, :D chin up old man ,had to say it lol, :)

Ken, despite the decal being gold and not yellow etc the build is coming along nicely. Stuff the radiator hoses, close the bonnet, seal it and be done with it. Only the top parts will show. No one is going to be interested in the engineering details of the Monkee Mobile. :)

BTW I found this with no decals on the side:

And this one shows the lettering in gold not yellow, and no "The" in the decal:

Another:

No "The" here either (but yellow looking decal):

So your kit isn't actually incorrect. They may have had more than one perhaps. Any way, get on with it and finish it mate, because it's looking good from where I sit.

Ken, Take a breath and a step back, I boxed up my C130 Blue Angels and Iron Patriot because they weren't going the way I wanted, I just started something else.

I'm sure though if you continue with your cars they will turn out to be great pieces of work.

I'm sure we all get down hearted at some point but its through these trials a tribulations that we better our work each time :)

Keep the faith

Adrian
