Mate, I always do. I am actually on call over this period, and have been called out on Xmas day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day without warning in the past. I have to then get to work within thirty minutes, no matter what I am doing...
My wife is a Nurse who does twelve hour shifts, and is not allowed to take leave at this time. She just gets told the rota’d days off she will be given and that’s all. No choice in the matter. This year is the first time she’s had Xmas day and Boxing Day off together in over twenty years....
There are actually over a million people that have to work through this period, most of them with very low pay. In addition to those mentioned, care workers, hospital porters, and care system catering staff come to mind. In the health services in particular, they do not get paid enhanced rates, this is just an expected part of the job.
So, yes, I always think of them as well.
Cheers and Merry Xmas...
Tim
