Latest Acquisitions (2019)

I've tried that Google site and it seems to work.
It works quite well for single words or short phrases. Give it longer texts, or ones full of jargon, and it will sometimes produce near-nonsense, but if it does, break up the text into shorter bits and try those separately.

It's slow, but I don't think I'll need to do every single word and whatever I do manage to get will be useful.
It gets faster when you get more practice: you’ll get used to where the letters are on the keyboard, and begin to recognise words or parts of words you’ve seen before.

I might even put together a list of the common words on the instructions as a sort of mini dictionary.
You could write the translation next to the original text.

Another delivery from SMS today. I've finally got myself a tank!

I've never been a fan of the traditional tank shape (the kind you'd get if you asked a kid to draw one) but do like early or quirky stuff. I've been looking at getting a Whippet to dip my toe into the tank pool, but this popped up and really took my fancy.

Also treated myself to some decent sprue cutters, along with a few other bits & bobs. With 454 little parts to deal with I didn't want to be butchering them with my cheap pair.

Andy,
I made it's larger brother, the Zvezda T-35 last year if the T28 follows it's style, then you will end up with a beauty!fin 02.jpg
The aerial is in one piece, and needs careful handling! These later Zvezda models go together really well - the only thing missing is PE for grilles!
Dave

Ooh nice. I did look at the T35 as well, and if my T28 turns out anywhere near as nice as yours I'll be a happy bunny.

First thing I checked was whether the aerial had survived Royal Fail, and thankfully it had. There is a small piece of plastic mesh in the box which I believe is to tart up the grilles.

Come on Scratchy,

We know that you won't butcher anything, especially with the new nippers...I think you are going to have a blast with this one and you can even dirty it up to cover any oopsies that might come along. I'm in for the ride Andy!!!

If you break the aerial, you can also build the tank without. Far from all tanks had radios at this stage, especially Russian ones.

At an autojumble today looking for classic car bits, but somehow this came home with me:

Missing the brushes and cement, but that's no great loss. The sprues are still in sealed bags. I got it down to £8.
Then I picked 4 of these up for £1 each, but I'd got home before I realised they're "For Polycarbonate", so presumably lacquer that IMG_20190713_144912000[1].jpgwill shrivel polystyrene into a gooey mess.

Pete

The polycarbonate paint is go on radio controlled car bodies I think....I don’t think it dries properly on styrene, but you could trial it on sprue offcuts....

Morning all,

Yesterday I attended the annual Model Days at the museum in Stammheim, Germany. Of course it would have been rude not to support the vendors in attendance. I had also stated that I would not buy anymore kits. I almost kept my word (it's not a whole kit) really......

This one is from Schatton Modellbau here in Bayern. When I saw this kit, I had to know how much it costs as I really wanted it. The firm owner runs the stand, so I asked. He said €45 which is a fair price. we got talking and I asked if he had a kit of this trailer without the side boards and front/back boards. He said no, opened the box, took out the 4 pieces, and said, "now I do"......He further said, "I mold these and it's no problem and the 4 parts can be used for another trailer kit". I then asked what he wanted for the rest and he said €35,
IMG_1812.JPG
Whipped out the wallet and it was a done deal and it's not a complete kit! We talked and I told him I needed the trailer for a piece of V2 equipment. He pulled out a book on the V2 and showed me what he hopes to cast one day. The launch pad assembly that was mounted on a railroad car. Now that would be one hell of a kit. What a really nice person!!! Anyway, a few needed things,
IMG_1809.JPG
The bus wheels are the same as the normal 8 hole Blitz wheels, but €2 cheaper. Go figure...References are also really nice to have as long as they aren't too expensive,
IMG_1814.JPG
A great series of books with loads of pics, info and color profiles. The motocykle book was €5, Maultier €12.
IMG_1815.JPG
The Heinkel book was €5 too and no, I'm not going over to the dark side of wing thingys. I do have the Revell kit in the stash to try one day. The paint book was €8 and nicely done in color. I also heard good stuff about the MIG cement. It's supposed to work better and faster than TET. Gotta give it a shot and see!!!

Sorry for the long post and that's all folks. No kits (ok?) and pics from the show/museum will be posted later.

Does that set contain only one wheel while that for the L 4500 A contains multiple wheels? (Sorry, I don’t deal well with inconsistencies like on these labels :))

Jakko,
These are complete sets with 7 wheels in both. The Opel Blitz bus set is cheaper than the normal Opel Blitz truck set and I don't know why, as they are identical, but €2 saved is great….

Wow Simon.
That was a great find, don't think you can better Tankograd books anyway but at that price it was a no-brainer.
