Latest Acquisitions (2023)

Nice acquisitions Neil. The neck on the Sergeant looks a little weird in the box art though? A bit like his neck is too long and the collar is too small. Sure it won’t be an issue for you though.
Cheers Tim
The head will have to be changed anyway as I have already built him out of the box. I didn't notice the issue but I think I must have addressed it unconsciously

I need the helmet with the badge on, though

Always an interesting read, looking at the photo from today you wouldn't think there was all that war history .
That’s largely because the whole promenade was extensively reconstructed in the 1980s, to bring it up to modern standards of defence against the sea. Right after the war, of course, as many signs as possible of the German occupation were quickly removed already.

Still, one bit of war history is still very apparent if you just follow the promenade in the direction of the wartime photo:

That’s a German bunker, with a wind organ (pipes that make noise when the wind blows through them) installed on top. The bunker normally has a very prominent ZIMMER FREI painted on it — German for “Room to let”, as in for tourists to stay in — in but the local council removes that every so often. And then somebody soon paints it back on :) (I read the story behind how that came to be painted on originally a while ago. Apparently, an Italian living in Vlissingen did it in the early 1980s because his father had been a forced labourer in the area during the war, and had been mistreated quite badly by the Germans. In a pub, the son said he would like to paint something on the bunker as a form of revenge, and the pub owner said that if he did, he would get a free beer. So one day he bought a tin of paint and a big brush, and late at night, went to the bunker to paint ZIMMER FREI on it.)

Good morning all

So this week's arrivals......

So having corrupted Andy Smythe into buying 1/48 wingy things - mostly Eduard - we are now in a never-ending feedback loop of sorts, in which I will see something he has bought and I go "I must have that!!" and vice versa.

In this case he bought the below P-47 and immediately I went "I don't have a P-47 in the stash!!". The Eduard and Tamiya offerings are not cheap whereas this was only £16 delivered and yet as these two reviews (link and link) show it's not a bad kit at all.

And as you can see from the below they really have taken care with the packaging....a good sign....and although you can't make it out, the detail is very good.

I ended getting all these from the same seller having spotted the Spitfire on sale but then made the mistake of looking at his other other items for sale!

I was the only bidder on the Spit and Pz III, with only one other bidder on the Elefant and so I got them for reasonable prices. The seller then agreed to combine the P&P, only charging me one lot and and so each of these only cost about 2/3 of the going rate.

Great story, and quite believable.

Here at the Towers the post room has been very busy. I bought some stuff from the TEMU app. Cheap prices, so worth the risk.
Also a few minutes later another delivery, some Veneer and double sided tape , look out for better finished dioramas.

Sticking with the Vlissingen hotel theme …

View attachment 487221

I was at the museum in Westkapelle today, for something to do with the LCA I’m building (all will be revealed later! :) ) and browsing the museum shop, came across that book. The meaning of the title is probably clear already, but it translates as Bunkers around Hotel Britannia 1940 - 1944: German naval headquarters in the Battle for the Scheldt. Written by two of the eminent local military historians and the son of a third (who (the son) is also the secretary of the bunker preservation society), so I have faith it will be well-researched and accurate.

Edit: Leafing through the book, I noticed two things worth mentioning here. One is that it includes some photos from the interior of a restored bunker in @Peter Gillson's part of the world (to illustrate what the interior of the bunker under Britannia would have looked like inside), and the name of the Italian who first painted the ZIMMER FREI, is Livio Scaïni :)

Raided the SM shop a couple of times

The paneling was bought out of intrest to compare with the tamiya equivalent . The clear colours are to experiment with putting over green to see how it changes the tone ,the primer if as good as the black will be a pleasure to use and a change out of the rut been using the black for age's all I hope will help with the lack of mojo.
A long time back when TET was unavailable here and came on a slow boat from Hong Kong for some reason it used to come with a free bottle of this
20230723_104124.jpg
What i called my glupey glue for when small parts needed something to grab on tet usually evaporated by the time you got there ,but a good few years old now had run low and stringy So a trip to the local railway hobby shop came up with this
20230729_160241.jpg
Yeh glupey not suited to the applicator brush and really stringy would not personally recomend. Ah revell contacta cement i hear you cry no way that stupid little tube that needs clearing with a fag lighter all the time so got me a jar of this
20230729_160304.jpg
Happy again now ,working mostly in 72nd its easier to take small parts to the glue brush than the other way round.
I have been doing a little but not put it up because I don't want to feel committed I have been taking pics so will put them(3on the go)if I continue to get the juices going ,that primer will be needed one of the builds is 35th god its like a size 11 shoe.Dave

I've been really happy with that paneliner, although I've never tried the impossible to locate Tamiya.

I got the black and brown tamiya panel liner when it first came out on the slow boat from china/Hong-Kong ive got the rust colour(orange?)as well not too keen on the black but they are superb as one would expect from tamiya. Dave

Who says there's no such thing as Christmas in July!!!
These four boxes have just arrived from our friends in California. She got them out of her Brother's Estate, and knowing what a Modeling enthusiast I am, asked if I would take them for the postage to get 'em to Montana. You Bet!, sez I and off they went.
Here's what she sent me........P1012793.JPGP1012794.JPGP1012798.JPGP1012791.JPGP1012799.JPGP1012800.JPGP1012801.JPGP1012802.JPG

WOW you hit the mother load there Rick. Very nice indeed.

Thanks Garry, it was totally unexpected.......I had an idea there would be a considerable amount of products, but nothing like this to be sure! Happy Day!!:smiling4:

Very good haul indeed Rick. You’ll have to learn how to love acrylics now. Loads of Vallejo in there ;)

Blimmin Eck....
You could open up a shop with that lot Rick!!:dizzy::cool:

Hells Bells Rick ,
How nice of the friends to think of you like that.
Considering how much paint you must use on your builds think your stocked up life, as for the amount of glue say no more !

Recent arrivals for future builds. The Lambo was an Ebay purchase for £19.99 delivered and Saturn V with unopened paints for £24.20 delivered so very reasonable I thought.
The 747 Shuttle transport came through John at our shop.
