This is my haul from the Coventry Model Show today:

I'm particularly pleased with the Sea Vixen and FAMO. I've been looking for them for ages and the only ones I've seen have been going for really stupid prices on ebay. I almost snatched the sellers' hands off at £40 and £75 respectively !

PS I really am going to have to print off a list of my stash before the next show - I've already got the Profipack version of the
Bf-108 !

PPS I finally managed to find some BIG boxes - I've missed out on the last few shows I've been too and was beginning to get withdrawal symptoms!

Well I finally got the last of my belated birthday today when I went to Micks model shop in Glasgow ( my wife left me alone and boy can this guy build kits. Had a look around and well I know the wife says that's it for now but I couldn't help myself. Lots more kits for the stash but I made a promise for now that's it no more.

Some time ago I bought my oldest son (13) a Tiger I 1/35 "World of Tanks" scale model hoping it would be something he could enjoy, but he hasn't started building it until now - and sadly after sanding the first half of the road wheels he said it wasn't fun. It might be due to him watching me building my tanks and being rather anal about sanding, assembly etc? Who knows.
The deal is now that I build the bottom half - including wheels and tracks, which is of the "glue together many single track pieces" type. Perhaps not the best to start with?

Anyhow this is the kit.

At first glance everything seemed ok with the quality - and so it should because it wasn't exactly cheap!
Sadly when starting picking through the sprues it was a different story...

There's so much flashing that it isn't fun anymore. Compared to the Tamiya kits I'm building right now this is way under par with regards to quality. Worse quality than my "long nosed" Panther!!!
Many parts fit really badly so there's going to require a fair bit of putty if it's going to look nice in the end... sigh.

This certainly reminds me of the old Italeri kits I built as a kid all those years ago and why I stopped.
Luckily the Tamiya kits I've built so far (apart from one dodgy kit) are top notch quality so I can soon go back to parts that fit and require little sanding!

I'm also about to cave in and get the Takom King Tiger Henschel Turret 505 with zimmerit and interior next week...? I've looked at it so many times now that I think I have to get it before I go mad from going back and forth with the order...
If so I'm also going to try the paints from Ammo of Mig. I'm really happy with the Tamiya paints I've used so far, but the pictures I've seen of the Takom King Tigers painted with the Ammo of Mig stuff is looking really nice!!! Ok, they are painted by a professional, but nonetheless, they look fantastic! :)

I've also looked at the new Tamiya Jagdpanther 1/16 but it's a bit steep at £350... And since it's based on their RC version there's a big chance that you'd want to upgrade at some point - for another £300-ish...
It looks fantastic though and perhaps it's something I can buy myself at Christmas? ;)
We'll see. First I need to get my shit together and decide if I'm going to buy the Takom King Tiger or not?!

Happy tinkering!

...and one hour later and I caved in :D

kingtiger505.jpg

And the book by Mig Jimenez which I've heard is a fantastic resource when painting, and weathering, the King Tiger - although I'm sure this is applicable to most German tanks of that era.
kingtiger-book.jpg

...and no order of mine is complete without another tank destroyer! I really need to find a StuG III & IV to complete my lineup at some point. And a Nashorn. And a few others... ;)

One of the reasons why I've been waiting to buy the King Tiger is that the shop I'm ordering all of my models and stuff from has been out of stock of the interior + exterior paint sets from Ammo of Mig.
I've now managed to find each colour separate and thus was able to complete, and place, the order!
I'm really looking forward to building the King Tiger because I've found the detailed work very satisfying so far, but the Tamiya tanks feels a bit "hollow" if you know what I mean... Such nice outer deserves an inner as well imho.
I've seen some people make "cutaways" of these Takom King Tigers but I will probably go for some sort of display where the tank is displayed in three parts so you can see all the details.

It's also going to be fun to see how the Ammo of Mig compares to Tamiya in the paint department? They do have MUCH better containers for the paint! I'm still a bit upset with my accident two weeks ago when I made a total mess with a jar of Tamiya paint that spilled out on just about everything - laptop included... (this was down to user error though and I can't really blame Tamiya for that f-up, but with bottles rather than jars it wouldn't have happened ;) )

Excellent haul Jens!!

I have the STUG one by Dragon and looks a nice kit. I recommend it ;)

My latest two kits:

Not sure if this is the right place as I bought them ready-made, but they are definitely kits! (They're 1/1 scale).
