Lee Drennen’s Hobby Farm & Garden

She teaches part time as a Sub now the other day she Substituted my youngest Daughters class that was funny my Youngest had to call her sister Ms. Drennen all day.
I used to work as a Technician in a Technical College, and I was also a part-time student and a part-time lecturer. One term I was the only student on a particular course, and the timetabling system made me the lecturer for one class of that course so I had to teach myself for two hours each week. One week I was sick - the Head of Department gave me a written warning for not having marked myself absent in the register, which was only allowed to be filled in on the day!.

I finally got this old girl running. Last time it was running was in 2014. I replaced the following to get her running again.
New Carb
Points
Plugs
Condenser
Rotor Bug
Coil
Fuel line
Battery
Re-wired it. And it finally ran. Here’s some pics of it Saturday I move some stuff around and graded the driveway and made a new spot for my farm trailer and blade C6F49161-8EC4-46E4-9E83-FAC9B9E734D8.jpegDA313648-5F1B-4D4C-8812-C4FF30C6C0B8.jpeg05DE7D29-05D3-4A54-B14A-7DED15A199FB.jpeg

Looking good Lee and well done for getting it up and running.

I had a relative who used to have a vintage tractor that he used to take to agricultural shows and display them alongside steam traction engines, so this brings back good memories.

All the best.

Andrew

Nothing so rewarding as when an old engine fires up for the first time in ages after you've spent a bit of time working on it :thumb2:

Hi Lee
Great to see the old girl up and running and doing what she was built to do. When we lived in Scotland many of the crofters had vintage tractors.

Usually the little grey Fergies (only tractor that I've driven!)

Looking nice Lee. I drive a Ford and Claas at work. The Ford is a bit 'agricultural' and certainly shakes the old bones.

On a side note. I've just planted 30 rhubarb seeds today. I'm planning to give them away to a few people when they germinate. Nothing beats fresh rhubarb crumble.

Except for a rhubarb and gooseberry one (our crowns died, but the gooseberry bushes are thriving :thumb2:)

I bought some rhubarb crowns and they all died. So i planted some seeds last year and they've thrived. Going to have a bumper crop this year (i have 3 plants growing). Our gooseberries and black currants are growing very well too. Just about to plant my blueberries into a bigger area. So hoping to get a nice crop from them too.

My uncle restored tractors & used them in ploughing competitions, he had quite a few over the years, Fordson Majors, a Dexta, Grey Fergies, his last one was a Massey Ferguson 135 which was very tidy. That didn't stop him from using it for the ploughing though.
I have a rhubarb root in my garden, it's a descendent of one that my Grandad brought us from his garden when we moved into a new house 40 years ago. The rhubarb took over the garden, we split the roots, gave some away but we still had loads. When my parents downsized we put a couple of roots in tubs, but they didn't do well. I moved into my house & planted the one that survived in my garden, it grew like wildfire last year and is growing quite well this year. Hopefully there will be plenty of rhubarb this year.

Gerry. I’m really glad I got it running I really miss driving it and working it.

Graeme. Thanks for sharing your uncle’s story I hope to get mine sanded down and re-painted this year. I never liked Rhubarb or could raise it. My brother likes in pies and does well raising it.

Jim. Thanks I would like to see a pic of some of those Scottish tractors

Alan. Thanks for stopping by and what is rhubarb crowns?

Cleaned the garage today and put the old girl in her place. First time it’s been in the garage in about 7 years. 1E0AF6B4-7F68-4BF4-9CBA-42D8CFCDAEC5.jpeg

Lee. The crown is the root of the rhubarb plant. After a few years and when it's big enough. You can split the 'crown' into two or three pieces and create a new plant(s).
Thanks Alan I never knew that. Around my place there’s a lot of Poke if you harvest when young you can eat it like spinach or collard greens and okra. I never liked it myself. When it starts growing around here I’ll take a pic of it and post it.

All 3 of our black currant bushes have gone, only one that's still going is the red currant - not sure what's happened to them, they were doing great until last year, then just died (didn't come out of winter) raspberries have taken over the top of the garden - no matter how hard they are cut back!

Lee - never heard of 'Poke' - might know it under a different name though - father was a gardener for several years and did a course at the RHS Wisley (Royal Horticultural Society) college before he went back to his true love which was animals
