With the current messy situation I have felt compelled to start building a couple the models that comprise my entire stash.
I haven't been around for a while, but some older members will remember that I work in the entertainment industry, which means I have not worked since the beginning of March and won't be in the foreseeable future. A job that depends on crowds, the larger the better, is not a good one to have at the moment ;)

The model was built out of the box from the Revell 1/32 scale kit, as one of the 45 (yes, 45) He 219s found at Westerland Fliegerhorst at the end of the war. It is from one of the two production blocks that were finished with the black undersides.
For those that care about such things, the upper surfaces are painted overall in RLM 75 with a 'wellenmuster' or squiggle of late war RLM 76 (which looks a LOT like the British colour Sky). When the Smithsonian took the wings off their He 219 original paintwork confirming this scheme was revealed.

The thing is so large, bigger than a 1/48 Lancaster, that I could only take a couple of very rough and ready snapshots, but you'll get the idea.

This is a decent kit. There are no fit issues, it goes together nicely. There are some inaccuracies which might bother the purists, but I've never let such things ruin my fun.

Next I will be finishing a horrible half completed Special Hobby He 100. Because it is a previously abandoned project I won't do a build thread, but I'll get one up for whatever is next. It's not like I have anything else to do!

Cheers

Steve

Edit: I forgot to say that although I put the requested amount of weight in the nacelles this model is a tail sitter. I have had to do an invisible wiring job to hold the nose wheel down on that board...bugger!

Morning Steve.
I shall get a front row seat , it's strange looking cockpit caught my eye.

Sorry to hear about the work situation steve but great to see you back posting . The Uhu looks fantastic , great paintwork , always fancied one of these 1/32 revell ones but the huge size and all that canopy masking just stopped me short! Looking forward to seeing the He100 , the Heinkel fighters being something ive done a bit of reading on lately. Cheers tony

Morning Steve.
Superb to see you back and posting once more. Your superior knowledge and input of WW2 aircraft has been sorely missed.

As Tony writes. 'sorry to hear about your work situation'. Let's hope things get back to something approaching normality pretty soon for all of us.

The model is up to your usual excellent standard and it's good to see you haven't lost your special touch.

Welcome back.

Thanks gentlemen.

My work situation might not be great, but there are many others in my industry who are far, far worse off. I'm not exactly a spring chicken, our mortgage is paid, kids educated and I'll get by effectively taking how ever long it takes out of my retirement plan. I'm not exactly a wealthy man, but I do have the means to get through this. I have friends and colleagues who still have mortgages, dependent children at various ages, etc., who are really feeling the pinch.

You have to look on the bright side and I'm taking this as an opportunity to build a few models. Last year I was very busy and really had little chance to sit at the bench. I was amazed when I turned on my compressor a couple of weeks ago and it worked!

Stay safe everyone.

It was a German thing. The Ju 188 and even Me 210/410 had a somewhat similar arrangement. It's almost as if they designed the fuselage and then suddenly realised they had to get two blokes in there and allow them a view of the outside world!

Cheers

Maybe after designing it they found it was a tail sitter so they put the two fattest pilots they could find as far forward as possible !:smiling5:

Welcome back Steve. Us pensioners have it easy at the moment, it's easy to forget about the people out of work.

Steve,
As a relative newcomer I can't say good to see you again, but welcome back. I am not a wingy person but I recognise a great build when I see. Bring on the next.

Bring on the next.

Well Paul, the next is the completion of a previously abandoned He 100 (the Luftwaffe's propaganda fighter, they pretended they had a lot more than the did, and the RAF obliged by claiming to shoot them down, even though they were never operational!)

It's a limited run kit, which means that there are literally no two pieces which fit together without considerable fettling and I am using a bit more of my preferred filler (superglue mixed with talcum powder) than would normally be the case :anguished: Did I mention that the instructions are a waste of paper?

If I do get it finished it should be in the next week or so, and I'll post a few pictures, for better or worse.

Cheers

Steve

Long time no see Steve - welcome back! Another stunning build.

Your work problems hopefully will resolve in time, meanwhile, best to stay safe and take care of you and yours.

Cheers all, and thanks Dave.

It is what it is; we're all in it through no fault of ours and I know there are plenty of people a lot worse off than me.

No excuses for not making some models! I've already mowed the lawn and cleaned the windows, inside and out!

I'm wondering what to do with that He 100 canopy, which appears to have been molded for a model about 2mm wider that the one it came in the box with. :rolling:

Cheers

Steve

Great to see you posting again Steve. What a piece to relaunch with. Nice one.

YAY STEVE! Total pleasure seeing you (and your builds again). You've been sorely missed.

Love the He219. I have a couple of 1/32 kits to build

Very nice work Steve:thumb2: and sorry to hear about your job…

Thanks for the weight tip, I’ll stuff the front end full with lead on mine .
Looking forward to see your He 100.

Hey Steve, nice to see you back. Great He219 build, interesting facts as usual from your vast knowledge of such things. Look forward to seeing some more Stona magic :)

Hi Steve

Great to see you back and posting a great build. You certainly caught that camo scheme.

Special Hobby? You certainly don't mind some headaches, but if anyone can turn that He100 into a decent model you can.

I quite fancy the ZM He219 personally, one day perhaps....

Stay safe
