We had a delivery yesterday and noticed in the back of the van a very scared little bird, the wife has put him in a cage and we are going to release him in a couple of days, although he does seem a lot better and is very vocal, he‘s chirping away quite happily.

Poor little chap. I assume he’s a fledgling, but any idea what he is? I was thinking blackbird, but the cream stripes under the eyes don’t seem right. I can’t work him out from that shot, especially as it’s difficult to judge size..

Is there a bird rescue place near you? If so, it would probably be better to take him there, rather than releasing him yourself. Could well be he’s weakened, ill or not really capable of taking care of himself just yet.

Not that I know of, we did think of that, for a little fellow he does seem quite active.

Looks like a young blackbird, the parents tend to "loose " them when they reach that stage. Mealy worms soaked in water will keep him more than happy .Kind of you to take him in

Agree John. The cream stripe that threw me is the edges of the mouth. When open it says “place food in here” to the parents

He was a little Sparrow, unfortunately he has just passed away, we went out he was fine, came back and he was on his side, give him a bit of water but he wasn't interested. :sleeping2:

Lucky they never lost him like they do with my parcels :rolling::tears-of-joy::tears-of-joy:p
