Made a start on jeeps and have bypassed the instructions for the most part as i dont need the engines and underside detailing as they will be secured to the dio base.

The sub-assemblies

bit of work done with the lights i wanted to include.

Started out with wanting the type of light shade used in mobile theatres, the closest things i had that looked like they would do were the bomb type things (technical eh:)) from the 1/48 blackhawk that i didn't use in the recent dio.

got some styrene tube and LEDs / wire sorted and ended up with this little effort.

Did a little work around mulcahys' tent, just got to add some flowerbeds around the base. also added some detailing in the form of a spare door laying around.

Got a few shots lit up, camera doesn't pick up the effect very well though.

Love the Jeeps, Colin how do you get the dust/muck effect on the windows? The detail in your Dio is awesome mate.

Robert.

Thanks for the comments guys

More updates a comin' dont worry Tony :)

Robert .... the dust is bicarb of soda, i paint the area its needed to go with slightly thinned PVA then put some bicarb in my hand and blow it onto the model, when dry i use acrylic washes in black and browns to colour the "dust" the dried bicarb just soaks up the colour and when dried again gives a decent effect methinks.

All the "dust" and "muck" on the vehicles is bicarb, i'll sprinkle or blow it onto the wet washes i use and then wait till dry to add extra colour, if its too thick (or in an area you dont need) you can rub it off with a stiff nylon brush.

If you get a red/brown mix of colour the bicarb idea is perfect for doing rust also.

Terrific stuff Colin, I know it's been said many times since this build started, but the detail is truly amazing.

Great work fella, keep it up!

Sir, you are the Van Gough of the modelling world...
Just checked and i still have two earholes so i deduce i'm not that crazy yet Andy :) :)

Got the vehicles in situ and added a few charactors, the standing ones have a pin secured in a hole in the feet so i can reposition then wherever i need as the base is made of balsa

Radars in the jeep looking panic struck (glasses seem to fit ok and dont look too bad?)

BJ's walking out his tent bearing first aid box and trademark hat (as close as i could get anyway)

Still a lot of figures to add, and a lot of extra details to fit in, the base is big enough to cope with them all i think without looking too cluttered.
