May go dark for a little while

Good to hear you are well and truly on the mend Tim. It sounds like you are enjoying life and mobility after years of discomfort. It is amazing how we adapt to living with health issues over time.

Certainly is Joe. It comes on slowly, so we adjust. It’s only when no more adjustment is possible that we really notice. Going through three boxes of paracetamol, or even stronger pain meds towards the end, is really no joke. Sue and I used to do specific “paracetamol runs”, going to adjacent supermarkets and buying the maximum each, to get enough to keep me supplied. If we didn’t I’d be out every couple of days because of the two box limit.

Great news Tim, hope the improvements continue

I have knee problems and use a stick, more for reassurance than anything but one tip I can give is when you go for a proper walk is use a walking pole instead of a stick...... It improves your posture by making you more up right but still gives support, I walk a lot quicker and confidantly with a pole

Good news Tim keep it going. Just don't rush to get rid of your cane, my doctor friend always tells me that he sees more patients injured in falls than with their original hip problems.

Quick update. Five weeks on and all is great. I am up to 5000 plus steps a day (about two miles in old money), getting stronger, off crutches, just use a stick while out as support if I tire, and am taking no painkillers. I expect to be pretty much normal in a few weeks, which is better than I’ve been in years. I also feel much brighter and more positive about life in general. Some of that is due to the vitamin B12 deficiency picked up in my pre op blood work, but most is due to the elimination of background pain that had been there so long I almost never noticed it. To say it’s been transformational is a real understatement.
Couldn't wish for better news Tim. Really pleased for you.

Great news Tim, the pole thing sounds good as it helps the back to be upright.

Thanks Paul. I’m on top of most of this. My stick is basically a walking pole, having the side grip if I need it, but I have set it up as a walking aid. Biggest issue with sticks is that people don’t set the length correctly. The top of the stick is apparently supposed to be at wrist height (not hand height) when you are standing relaxed so you don’t have to bend forward to use it. In addition, you use it on the opposite side to the injury, which I didn’t know until the hospital physio pointed it out.

Thanks John. Best thing the stick does is teach you to walk without a limp. Still building up stamina at the moment so it goes out with me even if it doesn’t get used.
