Hi everyone on one of my bargain hunt searches of ebay I purchased this revell 1/48 mig 15 unfortunately the seller was telling porkies when he listed it as complete. So now I have to track down a replacement canopy and I'm not having a lot of luck,I've been on the hannants site and find it terrible to navigate and search and after scrolling 20 pages I frustratingly gave up.So if someone would be so kind to help and point me in the right direction it would be greatly appreciated thanks for any help/advice offered cheers John :eek:View attachment 206144

Get in touch with Revell. I may have missed it in Hannants but the quick search didn't show anything for the MIG 15 and I couldn't see any from Pavla models-mig 19 etc but no 15.

Si:)

Do not think any body would have a spare cockpit cover other than Revell as Si has suggested. John

May be a bit pessimistic but is this not an old number John ? If it is it may be worth trying to get your seller to take it back as incomplete.

Can you make it in such a way that the pilot seat is in the ejection process? ... that would forego the need for a canopy...

Seat ejection very last option would have to be a crashed dio of some sort Willi trying to save it at the mo.Laurie I can't be bothered to send it back as it was only £4.50 and I have asked for a partial refund as I brought 4 kits from the dodgy dealer another kit was missing decals but that's easy enough to remedy (spares box) As you say it might be an old kit so the chances of revell helping out could be difficult I was hoping for an aftermarket canopy from somewhere:confused:

my idea was like the pilot has to eject because of engine failure or a fuel leak causing an engine failure. I don't think it necessarily has to be crashed/crashing. But that assumes that you can build an 'in flight' version. Normally I make mine (plane models) landed, i.e. sitting on the tarmac.

The answer is simple John, if a canopy cannot be sourced then do a graveyard weathered version, add a tarpaulin over the top section bulged out to look like there is a canopy.

Just received a £17 refund on a total price of £24 for four models so now I just need to find a canopy from somewhere or i could buy the same kit again and try moulding my own but buying a new canopy would be my preference so if there is someone on the forum knows where to get one please help with my dilemma cheers John

I hope someone can help you John, but I cannot find one in 1/48 scale, however, could you adapt a MIG 19 canopy? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Pavla-V48004-1-48-Vacform-Canopy-Mikoyan-Mig-19-/390588730171

Thanks Si but wrong shape really hoping someone out there knows where to get a replacement. due to my favourable refund I might just buy the same model again and try moulding one myself. Or as you suggested yesterday throw a cover over it and display it with my new complete version if I get lucky in finding one cheers John

Lol thanks Si the only one on ebay I already had it om my wish list thanks for your help I appreciate it I'll keep searching though never know revell might come through for me:eek:

Couldn't find one on Hannants for a MiG 15. Is the canopy common to any other mig versions... they had five or six other marks...

Not sure Ian I didn't think it would be this difficult to find a replacement canopy for something that must of been produced in thousands at some point :(

Unfortunately it looks like no one does a canopy John. The only option is to get one from another kit. The canopy on the 15 was carried over to the early 17's so you could also look out for those , the thing to remember though is that the later , missile armed 17 PF's and PFU's had a different front section ,being longer to accomodate the HUD and missile sighting system. hope this helps , cheers tony

I too have drawn a blank in searching for a MiG-15 canopy for you from any mainstream source.

Thought I'd found a Pavla replacement but it was actually 1/72 sorry.

I am no expert on Russian flying things, maybe Tony can help, but one option open to you is to get hold of a Tasman/Falcon vac-formed MiG-17 canopy. I can't see too much of a difference from looking at the two types online. http://www.jaysmodelkits.com/jaysmk/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=102_104&products_id=391

Edit: found that the canopy is the same shape as the MiG-15-bis except the MiG-17 has a thinner lateral frame across the rear of the canopy. That would be easily altered. Get a MiG-17 canopy John, I reckon that is the cheapest fix.

Ok lads thanks for all the help offered but for the moment looks like we are beat but I will not be defeated.Ive requested a replacement from revell (but won't be holding my breath on that option) So in the meantime I will try and hunt down another kit and already have my beady eye on one.My plan is to form another canopy from the other kit but never ever attempted this before so that should be interesting. But I am sure some of the great people here will advise me.Once again big thanks to everyone for all help and advice offered cheers John
