This is, I think, my first scale model car kit..... I have a vague memory of the old Airfix Bentley kit when I was a Yoof, but I think it was a mate's, and not sure we ever finished it? So may have done one, but this will be my first proper car kit.
Its the Lidl special, eg: old vintage airfix kit, but reboxed. Not much detail, but as I've always been a big Bond fan, the DB5 has always been a favourite.
I'm using the included (Humbrol) little paint pots, so they will prolly be cack, but hey we'll give it a go and see what happens....

Started this couple of days ago, so have already made some progress.
Primed everything up, Citadel chaos black, kept everything on the sprue, just because its quite small and theres not many parts, so may as well paint them on the sprue as is....
Left it for a day to harden, then started painting, the main car bodywork has had three coats so far, quite pleased with the paint TBH. Everytime I open the pot is had sort of congealed! But, a swift mix with my little leccy paint mixer swirly thing and it all seems to come together and is actually quite nice to use, with not too many streaks (Tamiya XF I am looking at you!) But I think it needs at least one more coat.
Started painting up the other bits, seats, exhausts, engine blokc, wheels, etc.
Hopefully will finish all the painting today then will start assembly late tonight or tomorrow....


I actually have an original 1960's Corgi 007 James Bond DB5, complete with its original box, instructions, working Q dept extras on the car, rotating reg plate, machine guns, ejector seat, missiles, rear bullet proof screen, wheel cutters and two spare little "enemy" men, who go flying out the roof when the ejector seat is activated. Looking forwrad to comapting them side by side once this little one is complete.

Initially I was debating whether to paint this silver, but the included paint is a sort of cream, so just going with that for now.

That 1/43rd scale Airfix DB5 is a relatively new kit as it happens. Airfix only started dabbling in 1/43rd scale about 6 or 7 years ago.

They also did a DB5 kit in 1/32nd scale that is yonks old, dating back to the 60's /70's I think

Pretty car for sure, looking good so far!

Just seems like an odd scale, wonder how they came up with 1/43? 1/48 I could understand, 1/50 even!

Lol, No, as that, for me, would be a Ford Anglie 1100E, hand painted matt black, bought for £50.....
It just about drove, then it sat outside our house for 12 months and I eventually sold it for £25 scrap.
But, the brakes had seazed in the meantime, so about half a dozen of us had to rock it back and forth to un-seaze the brakes, so they guy could get it on his truck to take it away!
Happy days...

Bit more progress today....
Finished off the internal painting last night and got everything assembled on the main chassis, seats, steering wheel, front bulkhead and dash, internal sides, engine block, exhausts, drive shafts, etc.







Also filled the wheels/tyres with some thin liquid filler as there was a slight gap all the way round each tyre.


Then we had a challenge, as the two halves (chassis and bodywork) did not want to meet!
Had to get the Dspiae mini grinder out, and slowly and carefully took off some material on either side, on couple of high spots, where it was preventing the two sides meeting as they should.
Eventually got them to meet, with not much of a gap, but they did need clamping to keep in place while the adhesive sets, will leave them for a good few hours to harden, settle, etc.


Then I did re-apply some primer to (now dry) wheels/tyres, and will give them a coat of tyre back later to finish them off.


Last bits to afix will be the bumbers and the headlight lens.....

The car is now assembled, added the headlight lens with tiny dabs of crystal klear and they did not fog up, so thats good. Added the front and rear bumpers, had to file the little connection tabs down a bit, but then they went on ok.
Added the front and rear screens, luckily no fogging, I did get a tiny bit of excess glue in one place, but ho hum, thass life innit!
Then added the wheels, (which have now had a coat of tyre black/grey) which all went on ok after drilling out the holes on the wheels so that they fit onto the axles ok. So its all together now, fully built.
Have also painted the indicators (orange) and brake lights (red).
Lastly went round and touched up the paint in couple of places.
Its sitting here drying now, after a good few hours, maybe even tomorrow, I'll add its final gloss coat on the main bodywork, as it is rather dull and flat looking at the moment.
So final pics should be here tomorrow.

Pics, not quite the final pics, as it needs its final gloss coat and the decal s(number plates adding), but its almost done.
You can see the paint looks a bit flat, so hopefully the gloss coat will left it a bit....
Added some very light chrome to the door handles, and front and rear badges and side bars.
