thanks for the support Guys - nice to see your seats are pulled up again.

Good to see you’re continuing on this one after all, and it looks like that fix should be enough.

However, I have to ask: how far does the wire go into his other (right) leg? I couldn’t find that on a quick read through the earlier parts of this thread, but if it doesn’t also go at least into his torso, I have a feeling that leg is likely to snap next.

jacko - Not to worry - that metal rod does go up into the torso. My original plan was to bend a single rod to go up one leg and down the other and into the helicopter skid, but that started to get a bit complicated.

Hi guys

it's back to this one.

i'm going to spend the rest of the year trying to finish off some Stalled builds, and the first to progress ix this one, partly because my local model club has a helicopter themed group build.

I have changed tack a little and am going to finish the base before returning to the 'copter. To put the dismounting figure into some sort of contexI am including these two figures by Bravo-6. They are nicely detailed and fit the scene nicely. The only minor change is the dirdction of the head of the standing figure to it will be a little more toward the 'copter rather than away from it.

Hi Guys

here is an update. I have been working on the base; made from plywood with thd ground work being polllyfilla with sand and grit. The footless figure will support the 'chopper and the pin which goes down through his leg was araldited into the base so that it is not going to move.

Tonight will be refining the details and enhancing the highlights and shadows So still very much wip, but here are a few photos:

Hi Folks

Well, I have finished it (more of less...). in terms of how I think it look, my feelings are:

concept - good
engineering - good
groundwork - good
modelling of the Huey - could do better
modelling the figures - could do better.

I have to admit that I could / should have added more details on the Huey and the detailing of the figure leaping down could be better, it shows my lack of knowledge about Hueys and uniforms of the Vietnam era - I think the 'engineering' took so much effort that my enthusiasm for him started to wane.

I have decided that I don't like helicopters. And before anybody points it out, yes I have missed the wipers - lost, probably in the carpet monster!!

The main thing is that I am happy the concept works - that the Huey, albeit a cut-down version, can be supported by wire through the figure's legs.

Next its on to me all encompassing WW1 trench dio.

I like the space between the Huey and the two figures ,I like the action, the engineering(obviously), and although I was skeptical about cutting the tail off the chopper ,I do think it helps the composition.

I personally think you have done an outstanding job on the whole scene. The figs, the poses, the Huey, the groundwork, along with the whole finished concept, is definitely great work on your part. If anything was missing, it would have to be the swirling dust from the rotor blades of the Huey blowing around. The rest is perfect Sir!!!

That has turned out as a really cool diorama. The idea was good, the execution may have had some unforeseen problems, but good you saw it through to this result

Hi All - Thanks for all of the kind comments.

Neil - I am a bit of a fan of chopping bits off vehicles, it stops them becoming A too dominant part of a dio.

i did think about setting the scene on the edge of a paddy field to show the down draft through ripples on the water, but thought it would be one technical challenge too many.
