I've been putting this together to waste time until the Heli GB but didn't want to do it in the trainer colours that the kit suggests. I did a bit of digging through old kits and found some weapons to load onto it.

I'm fully aware that it would probably either never get off the ground or if it did it would blow the wings off when firing the weapons but it was just a bit of fun.

With that in mind, what colour scheme do you think I should go with. I'm not going for the plain, low-viz grey (that's just boring) so any suggestions welcome, If you can provide a picture that would be even better.

I have various decals that I can use so don't need to think about that, purely the colour scheme.

Here's the blank canvass...

I think if you want something realistic then I would suggest RAF wrap around Dark Sea grey, and Dark green. Or the Arctic versions with the dark green over painted white. Have a google for photos of jaguar fighters and that will give you an idea.

The single seat gnats used by the Finnish AF and the Indian AF both had 2 colour upper schemes, the finnish black and green and the indian olive and green.Theres some nice pics of a privately owned one in the USA thats been painted in a 3 colour grey/blue/blue scheme , similar to the early Su 27 Flankers , that looks very tasty!! i'll see if I can link a picture. cheers tony

p.s. heres the link Warbird Depot - Jets > Steve Rosenberg's Folland Gnat T-1

Thanks guys.

Ian think the dark sea grey/dark green is a bit too...ahem...dark for what I was looking for and I absolutely HATE using white so the arctic one's out of the question.

I had a look for the Indian Gnat, Tony, that's more what I was thinking. I saw some pics of a jet from some South American country (don't remember which one). It was a mid green/mid brown camo pattern in the same style as the traditional RAF camo.

I'll put some colour on in the next day or two and post the results.

Drew, have you used marker pen for pre-shading before ? I have once, and never again. It takes so much paint to cover the shading (pen) I lost a lot of surface detail.

Nice one Drew, I got an airfix one of these that I culled the decals for my Red arrows Harrier off.

I like the ones from the film "Hot Shots"

Tony.
