Scale Model Shop

No Bench Time.................

Must admit I fitted daylight bulbs in my model room years ago. I spend a couple of hours a day in there so might as well get the right quality of light. I also have a daylight reading light in my living room.

I used to work for an electrical wholesaler and this time of year we used to sell a lot of SAD lamps, from what I understand they are a daylight lamp which give you more of a summer feel and not the grey winter light we have at the moment
It's well understood that the effects of natural full spectrum daylight increases seratonin which lifts your mood. Light boxes do work for sure

I'd been recommended to use a light box - I've actually one on order! 10,000 lux - I'm a bit sceptical at the moment, but I'll find out....................

Dave,
Sorry to hear about your problem and lack of modelling, I hope you can soon find a solution.
I do not know if it is the weather or what but my ptsd came to the fore yesterday. For those that do not know my ptsd takes the form that for any action I do not feel remorse, throw a kit in the bin, nothing, break a near completed job, zero, strip a freshly papered wall because a bubble will not go away, you got it. If you imagine walking down the street and never gave the ants or insects you step on any thought, then that is basically what it is. (trick cyclists explanation, not mine) So I can give compliments and mean every word, but if you upset me, then there is no appology coming.
So yesterday I it was an early morning call to the vets as the pup has pulled her shoulder muscle, and the appointment was for later in the day - no problem. Then later in the early afternoon it was a trip to the mobile NHS scanner for a chest/lung scan. And that was when I let fly... Going up the steps into the centre I was followed by a woman, upon entering the reception guy walked straight past me and to the woman, got her all sorted and there was I left standing like a spare pk at a wedding. And so I stood, and stood, then was told to take a seat - but not that seat, take one in reception. And then I was just ignored. So after a minute I stood up and they all looked at me and I said that as I had an appointment and that the time had now passed I would go home. and out the trailer I went and back to the car. Followed by one of the staff who asked me to go back in and they would get me sorted... So went back in and as soon as I stepped into the reception the old bat that had followed me up the stairs started having a go at me. I asked if we were married or engaged, to which the reply was no and why. I then informed her that if she were married to me then it would not be a scan she would need but a damn good follocking to sort out her attitude.... And with that I informed the NHS staff that they could keep the scan and their lack of respect and shove it where the sun failed to shine.
So I do see your problem and the other members as well and hope you can all get back on the bench again and not let me be the only grumpy old git on the forum...

Sorry to hear of your problems Dave. Let's hope the rays of sunshine (even artificial) that are on the way, will help to sort things out for you.

It will work, if you allow it, skepticism can reduce it's effect though, our own personal psyche is a tricky little sprite, we have to make work for us and not against

Had first session - it advises you to give it ten minutes, just to check that you don't get any adverse reaction. Then build up to an hour a day, half an hour in the morning on low light, and the same time in the evening on high. Quite impressed with the thing, I was expecting it to be a little flimsy, but it's well made & a lot heavier than I was expecting - about the size of an ipad mini...............

Yeesss!!!

Do stuff you enjoy while it's working and your mind will associate good things with it's use!

Make your fave meal, read a good book, watch your fave movie, anything that would give you a natural high!

Whereas some give it five minutes and give up saying it's not working! not giving it a chance!

They also make a great modelling lamp showing colours more naturally

Just get a few dozen of them and tile your ceiling with them! Ha!

Miko (future me - Cah that wardie is getting on my wick with all that chirpy optimism!) Ha!

A week since I started using the lamp - and I think I'm beginning to feel a benefit ( or is it that spring is here ), but only a little at the moment. With an increase in dosage of meds, I hope my modelmaking mojo will return in due course. I do feel a little more 'with it '

Good news Dave. Stick with it, and I hope it helps improve your quality of life.

Great news Dave. Things like the Daylight Lamp take a while to have an effect.

Dave,
with the help of the lamp and hopefully more sunshine now that wet miserable winter is behind us you will soon be feeling your old self. Take care of yourself.

I'm actually beginning to feel like I could return to the bench, but nothing onerous! I've been sitting tinkering with my 3D printer, and I reckon I've been pushing out some halfway decent prints - all tanks - all in 1/72 & all British - latest being from 1938/9!
It's taken a while for my new meds to kick in, and I reckon the SAD lamp has helped - my sleeping improved pretty quickly ( before I took the new meds ), I still have the odd day when I really have to force myself to do anything. I'm not sure that the talking therapy is worth pursuing, it actually seems to wind me up, and make me anxious, not what is supposed to happen, so I'll probably drop that.
Things seem to be on the up, though a bit slower than I hoped, but still up
Dave

Good for you Dave as ive been feelin like that since xmas but im feelin better an now doin some work on that tomcat where before if i did do anything it was a push to do it but now im back to enjoyin it

Good news Dave, seems you’re making progress, but it’s a long slow road. Sounds like the SAD lamp is helping. As to the meds, I was told that they took 6-8 weeks todo anything, and that those around you would notice the difference long before you did yourself, so yours may need a bit longer. I know what you mean about talking therapy, I too didn’t get much out of it. I found the mindfulness and meditation part of the therapy I was offered helped much more.
