Just thought I'd share this little golden nugget of info. Call it a public service Bulletin.

When using an electric plane, The woodworking tool, not an RC model. should you be working at an odd angle and you come to drop it

DO NOT TRY TO CATCH IT!!!

I will just point out that they work really well on fingers. I can vouch for that after the Plane had removed the pad of my left hand pointing finger in like 1/5000 Of a second.

On the bright side it didn't hurt at all. It did bleed rather a lot though..

I have just got the kit home for the SIG Tank Busters Build as well. It was hard enough banging in fence staples with an 'ammer, So I cant see me building models for the next few days.!!!!

Hey Ho, the cat prison, (I have closed the covered terrace with netting and built a couple of doors to keep the buggers in. It was during the construction of said doors I dropped the darn plane). is done and the cats are as happy as they can be. So I s'pose it was almost worth it!...?

I'm reading this and i know whats coming, but i still had to read it all. Sorry to hear about your mishap Ian but it's natural instinct to catch things that are still running i know, i tried it with an 9in angle grinder the other day.

Yes I am right handed, so its not in the way all the time. The problem is it's the holding stuff finger init!!

John! Hope that ended OK. I had a mate who was a panel basher, He was sitting on the boot sill while grinding welds off the bottom of the panel the boot lid hinges to. You guessed it. The grinder kicked and he got it right in the kisser...Still wasn't that bad he only needed 17 stitches, 15 in his lip and two in the back off the head where he hit the floor falling out the car boot! Even he laughed at that.

I know for sure I won't be building for a couple of days, I just made 5lb of particles for a two day carp fishing trip....

Laurie, it's not as bad as it could of been, The good lady has just put a new plaster on it with out fainting. :laughing:

Watch on that carp fishing. Fish finger ? Got a small stretch of water in Jersey with a lake at the end. Stocked full of carp orginally think they now do it themselves. Caught a few there years back. Really good fun they a speedy merchants & great fighters.

OUCH! sack the juggler! Seriously though Ian, i know its not a laughing matter, i myself lost the terminal phalanx(top bit , about 3/4") of my third finger ,right hand , about twenty five years ago to a circular saw!. Hopefully ,unlike mine , your fingerprint will slowly grow back ,albeit a bit scarred , and im sure it wont stop you modelling . As for me , ive never played the piano since (or before actually!!)LOL!! cheers tony

If it's any consolation, Ian (and it probably isn't), you are not alone. I once worked with a man who just couldn't wait for the few seconds for the blade to stop spinning and he decided to slow it down with his thumb. What is it about electric planes?

Sorry to hear about the "accident" mate,can sorta feel for you, I did something similar to the end of my right thumb with a v v sharp chefs knife while chopping sausage, you're right it dosen't hurt - at first! - throbbed a bit the following day.

sorry to hear about your mishap, i tried to stop a 30" diameter circular saw once with two fingers on my right hand,that didnt go too well either,got them sewn back on with pins in one of them but they are wonky.
