Though I agree, this is inherently difficult to do on an online forum …

Seriously? I find that very strange — but probably evidence of people not being able to ignore (for whatever reason) threads they don’t care for.

Interesting comment by both of you,:smiling2:
have you noticed a decline from your members since the arrival of us from the " Other House ".? ..
And
Personally I rarely comment on things that don't interest me, this must be common as I find I have the same group of posters on my threads.
Anyway I came on here to model , learn and have fun with like minded people.
Here is a cartoon of our Ron being laid back .:smiling2::smiling2::smiling2:

Which one is Ron? :smiling5:

Well, I suppose it isn't really scale modelling. Neither IMHO is figure painting, or modelling things that don't actually exist, but some people do those things with amazing skill and I wouldn't want to stop their contributions to the forum, I just don't often read their threads.
Yes, sometimes the answers are found by a quick Google image search, but I've learned a lot about modelling-related subjects, and military history, from those searches.
What exactly are people complaining about?

Pete

I have never commented on the thread or even looked at it so I have no opinion on whether it is good or bad or whether it is right for it to continue. Makes no odds to me. My only thought is if others enjoy it why spoil their fun? It's a bit like saying "I never eat in Mcdonalds but I want it to close so no one else can"

OK, so I voted for option 1. Not because I have a problem with that thread or have complained to admin about it (if I had I would be more than happy to admit to it) , but because I've just read though this one. I've been a member here for nearly 2 years and I've never known an issue like this to come up before. I certainly didn't like some of the comments directed at the staff who I think do a great job.

I find it interesting that the majority of posts on this thread are from ex-MM members. I understand that you had no choice but to move on from your old home, and you were welcomed (and still are) here. Maybe things were different on MM, but if you are going to integrate you need to accept the admin/mods decision. If you can't, maybe this isn't the forum for you. That is probably going to be taken the wrong way so I will add that it is not meant to be offensive.

Just my 2 cents.

Bob .Hi .
I think the responses are high from us x members of the other house because we were mostly a regular group of posters , nothing more.
We did in fact have a similar thread of none modelling , a well used thread on funny photos that menbers would post, no quizz but was a go to area.
I don't personally like as I have said the quizz, and can understand the reasons for the admin mods asking.

Pete, in a nut shell some folks think the quiz is taking too much attention away from the models being built and they have also noticed, as I have, the drop in views and comments on build threads. They perceive rightly or wrongly that perhaps members dive in to the quiz and then don't bother looking much further.
As I tried to explain, but was shot down, take a look at the number of 'hits', call them what you will, for the quiz, then look at the relatively low number of posts on builds. It wasn't like that before. That is a fact.

John R.- Where on earth did you find this photo of my wife - Topless! I really must get her to have a shave. That's me in the background camouflaged as a seal. Nifty paintwork, what?!

John, aimed at your last post, we do have a similar thread in caption and quiz's. Title this photo sort of thing. Good fun too!

Personally I feel that posting risque photos of readers wives is something that definitely should be stamped on by the mods! :rolling: :smiling: :tongue-out3:
Jim

Well if it is that particular thread causing upset, suspend it for 2/3 weeks.

If then, the general modelling posts are visited more and receive more likes/ comments, we know it was the problem.
We can all speculate till the cows come home....but I feel this is getting too personal and will encourage people to model elsewhere.

No chance....I think she looks fit on an inflatable bed/lilo! I might marry her one day and surprise our children!

OK, that's an understandable point of view As Si suggested, suspend the thread then and see if the number of comments on build threads increases.
I have a couple of theories about the apparent reduction in comments, but I'll keep them to myself for now.

Pete

I wasn’t going to comment on this, I put it down to one of those rare fall outs and minor squabbles that break out amongst the Forum, but here goes.
What is the reason for wanting to “put this thread to grass”?
If there have been complaints or comments about it then what are they? Being aware of the nature of the comments against this thread are important so that the same mistake is not repeated.
Is it because it is not a thread about building models - because it’s not the only one.
Does it breach the Forum rules, which one(s). The copyright rule being the only one that comes vaguely close).
There are many threads I do not read, find interesting or even think appropriate for this site but I do not feel an urge to push back against them, the exception to this would be a thread that breaches the Forum rules.

An interesting point, but could it be a coincidence ? Can one thread really divert peoples attention away from other threads ? I really don't know. The thread in question doesn't distract me, maybe I'm odd ? Quiet at the back..

Rick, I've tried to outline what is seen as the basic 'problem' in my reply above to Pete (stillp)

Cheers.

Yes. Crossed posts there.

So what rules are being broken?
If distraction is the reason then all other threads that do not specifically include modelling need to be scrubbed.
Eg. What did you fly in. What flew over your house. Look at my new addition to the stash/car/kitten.

Rick - No one has written that rules have been broken

It's the volume of distraction on the quiz thread not others, that concerns some members.

Tag Quiz - 37.000 in about 6 months.......Then take look at views on all our builds.

Eg. What did you fly in today? - 5400 in about 3 years.

Before anyone jumps on me, I'm just trying to help fellow members understand why folks are concerned.

Volume of distraction- measured in hits on the thread? Well if shutting down the thread makes “some” members happy then all the rest of us will just have to lump it.

I’ll change my vote and ask that the thread be locked.

Doesn't that just prove that the thread is popular?

Personally. I don't fly any more, so never look at that one. I suspect some others are the same.

Pete

Perhaps the members are just curious as to where the 37,000 souls go to after they have viewed the quiz thread? Fair question, I suppose....
The modeller would presumable have liked them to remain logged in, look at the models etc. on offer and post a comment or just throw a few likes about.

Jeez Pete, I was just using that thread as an example!

Not you Pete, but I've had enough of being interrogated and corrected with some sarcastic posts when all I'm trying to do is help folks understand just why this thread has been opened. I've written all I can and am in danger of repeating myself and I suspect things are getting heated, so I'll just quietly watch from the bench.
