Oh dear it's a 1/72 Bristol Beveldere

What gets me is how complex the unmodified rotor heads are in the first place
Have to say the wheels are a dead loss, though I think we'll be impressed with your coming improvements!

Hi Steve, good thing they did that or I'd have to modify the whole assembly and two at that. Still haven't decided how I will tackle the wheels as both options are doable.

Well Richard that's a massive improvement on those rotor mounts. Filling a few pin marks is acceptable but those wheels are horrible. A lot of work ahead of you.
Thanks Jim, somebody fell asleep on the job I guess.
Nice work on them thar rotor heads. And a nice job scribing the ROTORS, (aka props)!! :rolling: ;) :smiling2: :smiling2: :smiling2:
(We'll make an air fitter of you yet Richard)
Ah, filling up my note book on them descriptions Doug. I get lost in the conversation on flying things at the LHS but now I can shoot a few words in without blank faces staring back at me. :smiling6:

I've taped the rotors onto the insides of a sauce pan and poured hot water in to get the sag of the rotors. Turned out just a little over bent so am bending them back slightly without breaking them. Pictures later.

Hi there guys,
The Belvedere is keeping my mind off Jen Jen.
Latest fitting to see if the sag is enough...

The box top picture shows short stubby rotors but these are long and spindly. Starting to turn from an ugly duckling to a swan. I quite like how it looks although it resembles a dachshund or longhouse.

Sorry for not popping in much Richard but I've been following the excellent work here from a distance.

You have the 'droop' on the rotors just about bang on there. Honestly if you see the rotor blades being made it would shock you. Very agricultural. What you can't see in most helicopters rotor is they actually impart a very slight twist in the blade. (This is all to do with the amount of lift produced over the length of the blade in line with the rotating speed. (The inside, next to the rotor head, will not be as fast as the rotor tips!!). To achieve this Westlands used a jig to hold the rotor and then with a scaffold pole, turn the leading edge spar to get the required angle. Only a degree or so, nothing you would see with the naked eye unless with it off the helicopter!!!

Looking very much like the rotorcraft it really was and not the image on the box. Superb jiggery pokery.

No worries Andy, noticed your likes. Having you along to observe and follow is great.
Wabble,
The props look spot on.
Thank you Scottie.
Most definitely thanks to all the work you're putting in.
The reason is I'm having fun Jim.

Thanks Doug, initially the droop was overdone and I had to tease them back. On doing so the rotors has a slight twist.

Here's the rotors with a coat of black and grey base. I've yet to cover the attachment points of the left rotor...

And I've worked on the IP, the Vallejo silver on the pedals doesn't seem to work. Will repaint with Mr Color Silver.

That's it for today...just recovered from a sinus attack.

Just added the clips for the mesh that attaches to the fuselage and resized the square bulge that replaces the antennae.

Just keeps getting better, lovely work
Some cracking work Richard, looking forward to the next instalment.
Thanks Mick and Ian, here's the next instalment...

The square bulge got some putty added and will be sanded smooth...
20230909_011017.jpg
...so did the chin area joint under the cockpit and the second part of the belly bulge as well...
20230909_011042.jpg20230909_011059.jpg
...then I filled the hole in the wheels shown front and back. I'll be strengthening the back with a sliced disc from a thick rod. If I can I will add spoke detail to the hub.

Cheers,
Wabble

Taking shape nicely Richard :thumb2:
Thanks Fernando, good to hear from you.
Wabble,
Outstanding work mate your eye for detail is superb.
Thanks Scottie, I'm just winging it...can't bling as much as you can.
Don't forget the tyre valves! Only joking Wabble - looking superb already!
Steve
Look carefully Doug and you might see it...just kidding too. I'd be crazy to add that. :smiling6: Thanks.

Made some progress but no pix...had to rush back from the LHS. They're canopy and cargo doors, sanding of puttied areas and the front rotor conduit above the canopy.

Pix of progress...

Used a vacformed bubble wrap cut larger than the window size for the curved window attaching it with putty, masked and sanded. Cockpit window cut out and will add strips of plastic for the sliding bracket and windshield cover. The Belvedere had only a sliding window on one side of the canopy as the other side has a bulge aft of the window blocking any chance of a slide opening. I'm guessing it hinged up. Then there's the piece for the extended rotor conduit. Here's a closer look from the side...
