I dropped by chance into the earliest threads of this Chit-chat theme and looking at 2004 and 2005, the only poster that I recognised was John! wonwinglo was particularly active. Where were all you lot then?

I conclude that modellers have a short life span. We are all doomed!

Only doomed if we consider death to be a negative thing Steve?

I think that if you look at the info under the users on the left hand side of the screen you will see the date people joined the forum. I can see that you joined us 4/11/2012

and Aidan 3/4/2010- I am sure that there are a few that will surprise you with how long they have been here...

Many of us are returning modellers, and I guess that not all find it as fun as it used to be. (or as cheep).

Well I've only been modelling for 20 months so I hope I'm excused for not being on here 9 years ago :P

Seriously though I've been a member of lots of forums and I've noticed that many people lose interest in them after a while due to many factors like in house squabling or the fun has gone but I think many just have other things going on in their lives and by the time they've solved what ever it was , it can be hard to recapture the buzz of a hobby or interest after being away for a while

I returned to the hobby several years before I found this forum.I found I had reached a point where I wanted to improve, but didnt know how to.I was also fed up having nobody to talk models with. Was searching the Internet one evening and came across this site.In the past two years I have learnt a lot from the members on here and am more into my hobby than I have ever been.

This forum is very important for me. Knowing myself, if I haven't found it, maybe my pasion for this hobby have finished last year.

Like Andy I wouldn't go anywhere else!

I look in most days to keep up with threads but don't always have the time to post... But will be soon, with pics if my bf109 in a couple of days time after the final spot of weathering, varnish and finishing touches.....

I joined December 26th 2008. Guess what I got for that Christmas ?

interesting subject

i got back into model making 7 years ago after a 30+ year lay off, i had done a couple of models before i started to use t'internet to look for tips. i found a great little forum and joined up to get some tips/encouragement.........7 years later im on the moderating staff and organise all the GB's there........its very similar to here......not too small, not too big, very friendly without any of the BS going on.........the flip side is that i have tried lots of forums out there......and left lots of them too!! lol.......simply cos they do have lots of BS. about 2 years ago when i decided i wanted to learn more about doing armour properly i joined an armour forum, incredibly talented modellers but it was a very insular crowd. if you wern't in 'the gang' you were virtually ignored..........i joined a car modelling forum about 2 years ago which turned out to have an admin with a god complex. after making a few posts i was finding every post had a warning attached (no reason why the warning was there) so i asked the question and was told its cos i dont use capital letters whilst typing and it was considered poor grammar!....just one of the habits i have....i looked into it further and the rules section was enormous,....there was a full section on posting pics which showed minimum standards, must be in focus, no shadows, correctly lit, no cluttered work bench etc .........i said the warning thing was a bit daft if you didnt actually let people know what they done wrong......next time i tried logging in not only did i find myself banned but every post i had made had been deleted, my profile had been deleted and my ip address had been blocked!! ..someone else i know got banned there for speaking out as he tried to support a newbie who was getting picked on as english wasnt his first language...thing is what goes around comes around......when that forum closed a lot of the members, including the admin, joined the forum im a mod on :P

i havnt been here long but i like it,...........i hate big impersonal forums or ones with lots of one upmanship, this is a great forum

i used to enjoy community forums and once had a good comparison told me

forums are like a bar......there will always be the regulars propping it up.....people will visit and maybe stay a while if they like it, they maybe even like it enough to become a regular, but every now and then people will move on cos they fancy a change of scenery or cos someone upsets them, some return cos they miss the atmosphere, others will find somewhere else they like better

like anything life i think things change and things come and go ive been here a few years some but there are times when im away from the few sites i us for weeks/months

Looking forward to that, Barry. A 109 is on my list, having noticed them during the war.

Well I think it would ruin my day !
My problem is that I will not be around to see what's happening in the world. Annoying.

Might be the only time I get a full, unbroken nights sleep!!

I like it here ......... It's informal, there is always someone to lend a hand and everybody, regardless of skill level or experience is putting there best effort into their builds and all on here appreciate that and offer their support and encouragement.

You've summed up everything I like about this site , I'm a comparable novice in terms of my builds but there is always someone with constructive critisisim to help out instead of just critisisim , I like that and I think it's the main reason I'm still building.

This is my modelling forum of choice for the very reasons above. People take their models seriously but not too seriously, which is important. It's a hobby and it should be fun. It shouldn't matter if you've been building for a week and are starting a fairly steep learning curve or thirty years, and here it really doesn't.

here are other places which I frequent which definitely take themselves a bit too seriously :)

Cheers

Steve

Love this forum, plenty of help & advice from people far more experienced than myself.

Friendly banter and a great assortment of subjects, not just the usual boats/planes/tanks!

Nothing at all wrong with latter, it's just I like to see contributors differing interests & skills.

Some would say I've been dead for a long while, but I have been here for an equally long while. Besides death is the end of one journey and the beginning of another.
