Dear Expert Modellers,

I am trying to buy the paint mask set for the Luftwaffe mottled camo effect in a 1:48 scale but everywhere I look is sold out.

Can anyone advise where else to look or has anyone got a set for sale or hire.

Waiting in anticipation.

Terry

I've heard of these masks but not seen them.Personally I've learnt over the years through trial and error to do Luftwaffe mottling.First when I was a kid with a cut down paint brush using a stippling action. And nowadays with an airbrush.

Hi all,

I am constructing the Airfix BF109 Trop 1:48 scale.

I have treid practicing ith my airbrush, however I keep getting a very slight overspray effect no matter how low my air prssure (tried from 18 ps1 down to 10) So I thought the paint mask would be ideal to get a good sharp finish on the mottle effect.

First off welcome now down to bussines.

You don't want a hard edge to the mottle, I have seen paper masks used to great advantage. If there is a full size paint guide you could trace the mottle off that. Cut it iut with a fine scalpel hold it a milimetre or two from the surface and spray direct through that. Sounds a lot harder than it actually is. give it a try on a bit of card.

Ian,

Xacto knife at the ready, I am goig in.........

I think that's a good call. That mottle was more blotches and though obviously sprayed freehand at 1:1scale it was not as diffuse as some mottles were.

Cheers
