This will be a long build ( time wise ). I’m hoping to try and emulate the right flank of the charge namely the 13th Hussars. I know the figures are 11th Hussars, but the difference is mostly the colour of the uniform and head dress.

I’ve already started, if you’ve seen my horses thread in the painting thread. So I’ll show you what I’ve done so far

Brave man,taking on horses!!:astonished:
Love the idea of this, and will be watching closely, gathering tips,(had some plastic "Napoleonic Wars" French Dragoons in the stash for a while now),
Good luck with this, looks like you're off to a great start already :thumb2:.

Bum. Those figures are fine for either the 8th or 11th Hussars, but not really for the 13th I'm afraid. They and the 4th were still Light Dragoons at the time of the Crimea and didn't convert to Hussars until the 1860's.

Sorry.

Cheers for clearing that up Alex, looks like I’ll need to source some other figures. But I’m going to crack on with the horses for now.

Since it’s 169 years ago today that the charge of the light brigade happened, I thought I’d make a proper start on this. So I’ve got all the horses ( I’m going to do) primed and ready for painting.573FB1F7-5C7F-4494-846A-3567FBFE78C6.jpegD6D1A224-EFE5-4C1C-9B55-F5EBE492C0E2.jpeg4888245E-A9BF-4BC2-85F0-A64CD5F36463.jpeg0B23CF68-DA53-43C9-9363-4D9B86D32CA0.jpeg

Wow, Ian, that's a lot of horses. You said in your first post that this would be a long build and seeing them all I can understand why. It will be interesting to see this develop.

Yes Jim, and it’s not just the horses, I’ve all the riders to do too.

I’ve not forgot about this, just been spending some time painting the horses.

Still plenty of work to do on them.

Going well Ian. Lots of horseflesh on view. Thats more horses than I’ve done at once before….I think the most I’ve done was sixteen…..did them in colour groups (All the bays, then the chestnuts, then the blacks etc) for efficiency. How are you going to hold the riders for priming and painting? I have ideas if you need them, based around my 28mm stuff, but if you’ve already sorted it out then crack on :thumb2:

Thanks Tim, I usually just drill an hole in their but and stick a cocktail stick up it. A bit painful sounding but it works. What is your method Tim?

Hi Ian. I’ve got some painting stands for them made out of scraps of balsa wood and biro pen cases. I then just blue tack them to the round bit of the biro so I can hold them for painting.
