Papa695s Gillow’s Spitfire MK1

Thanks John, the grease proof paper is only there, to stop the parts sticking to the plans while constructing the parts. I use that mainly because you can see through it, and the glue doesn’t really stick to it. There is some really thin tissue paper for the fabric.

Thanks Steven, but trains have an habit of derailing at times. Ha Ha.

Ian,
Coming along really well, thanks also for the very in depth pictures as this is all new to me. Top job mate.

Coming along very nicely. It looks nice and straight!
I'm sure you will wing the next stage😂

It is so cool watching this come together, Guillow's kits were made right next door in Massachusetts, so every hobby store around here carried them. Every summer vacation from school we kids in the neighborhood would build one of these kits and have dogfights to the death! My favorite was the Fw-190 (in the same series as your Spitfire). I painted it with Pactra Authentic colors in brown and green camo that was in no way authentic, but it looked cool as heck! It also added so much extra weight that the flights were short and the landings hard 😂 But it was immense fun that kept us occupied for quite a while.

This brings back some great memories of building one of these balsa and tissue kits with my dad a very long time ago. Ypur off to a great start I will follow along.

Ian,
Great stuff, fuselage looks fantastic, love all the ribs, starting to look like the real deal ✈.

That'll keep you busy! Nice to see the noble art of wooden model aeroplane construction is still alive and well living at your place

Miko (suitably impressed)

Funny looking rapier missile 🤣

Im really enjoying watching this go together......seems easy and difficult at the same time
