Me personally I wouldn't re-scribe the Airfix Vulcan as I reckon it looks good as it is!

Only built one of those in the past and one was enough for me and recently I was asked to build another!!!!

Too late Ian iv'e just about finished scribing it all now. This is my first Vulcan iv'e heared about some problems with it so i thought i'd give it a go

Looks good.I like to remove raised detail and rescribe kits myself.I think it looks a lot better than loads of raised lines all over the place.Im currently rescribing the Airfix 1/48 Hurricane.A bit less to do than on your Vulcan!.

You had fun re-scribing , wait until you get to those air intakes....................

Thread owner
Hi Colin just getting to them now. Squadron green putty and Cellulose thinners will sort them out ( i hope ) :please:

Agree there Dave. Met my first raised detail on the Harrier. A nightmare if you have a deal of filling then sanding down. No way can you replicate the detail lost.

Next time I will remove & rescribe.

Look forward to seeing your final result Ian. Incredible looking aircraft.

Laurie

Very nice sir! You will certainly need to buy the paint in bulk for that plane LOL.

The intakes are really good, how do you get rid of the seams in such confined areas without any "collateral damage"?

Please tell as I feel a christmas prezzie request coming on.

Tony.

Brilliant job on the intakes. How long did it take, it seemed to take me about a day !!

Hi Tony I mixed some squadron green with cellulose thinners to make a runny paste then with a paint brush painted it over the seam then when dry got some cotton buds dipped the end in the thinners then with a twerling motion worked it over the seam untill smooth but when it starts to get tackie stop and then dip the other end in then carry on untill its seamless hope that helps

Hi Colin the longest part was waiting for the squadron green/thinners paste to dry

I've just read that XH558 will NOT be flying after next years display season, due to major work need to update it, so this build for me as turned into a more important build

There's not much detail in the cockpit so i thought i'd add some View attachment 51668 first got some of the sprue cut two bits off then added some tiny bits to look like dials and switches View attachment 51669 View attachment 51670 then painted and then dry brushed for effect View attachment 51671 View attachment 51672 View attachment 51673 View attachment 51674 View attachment 51675 I know you wont be able to see much if anything but what the hay

Also painted the fans black then dry brushed them silver View attachment 51676 View attachment 51677 forgot to add cockpit not glued in place yet still doing the pilots

Where you heard this from Matey ?

if you put xh558 in to Google about half the results mention the fact that it needs 200.000 spending on some structures that have put in too many flight hours.

they're hoping the trust supporters will be able to help raise the money.

Thread owner
Hi Ian i got it off the BBC Teletext they said that the trust was unwilling to pay for the structures modifications
