Hi all
Next up for me is this splendid kit from Altores Studios featuring a female partisan and base. With my recent builds all being busts doing something in this smaller scale should be a pleasant change and it really is a lovely kit....

Its really well detailed for such a small scale (1:30) and fits together perfectly

So, I have made a start on the head and face and maybe the headscarf paint scheme is a little too fancy for a partisan ...but who knows the circumstances.... also maybe the blonde locks should be toned down but time will tell. In my defence Ithink this is the first model of a women I have ever attempted!!???

in any event it’s taken me a while already to get this far ... so watch this space and thanks for looking in!

That is great. As Neil says, she looks real. Love the freestyle on the scarf esp. With that stare you wouldn’t want to get on the wrong side of her though.

Sorry Jason, missed the start of this. I've done a few Altores busts in my time any really rate them. This is a lovely figure and you are doing a cracking job. No reason at all why she shouldn't have blond hair and a fancy scarf - go for it.

Hi Jason
Lovely sculpt. Odd scale?? Beautiful work so far. I like the glamorous blonde look with the fancy scarf.

Thanks all... much appreciated... the figure seems to be coming on but got some concerns about gettting the setting right... anybody got a tutorial on painting tree bark?
Thanks
Jason

Beautiful work Jason. Very, very nice indeed.

The tree bark looks like it would respond well to dry-brushing - a dark base coat then layers of brownish grey getting lighter. It would certainly bring out the texture.

Beautiful Jason, think the scarf and her hair are right for this, as there's going to be a lot of browns, blacks in the bark .

I took this pic the other day... I might struggle with this as your perception is that tree bark is brown but here the tree is mainly green!

Hi Jason
The tree trunk colour depends upon the tree species and the direction of the photo. I would find a tree that mimics what you want, take a couple of shots from different directions, then copy those colours. The moss/algae green stain colour can be recreated by dusting on ground pastels over the top of the base trunk colour.

Very nicely done Jason. The colours work very well. My only comment would be with the sculptor, he has obviously never used an MP40. If she tried shooting it holding the magazine like that she would get one shot and it would jam They were notorious for it. Looking forward to the tree work.
John.

Hi Jason
The texture of the trunk may be wrong but how about a silver birch, may give a nice contrast.

Hi Jason.

I think it's meant to be a pine, so your looking at greys through to rusty reds.

Jason . Yes it would be , this must be on the wettest side of the tree. Also not in open land so in a damp spot .Here's a few others

All depends on what the tree is.

Thanks all... just been for a rather damp stroll and came up with these which are closest to the bark on the model...8385A2EB-1065-4DC7-9247-A4575415BC18.jpeg

lots of green a red browns in there, plus much darker where it is wet near the base...The
Figure is finished now so I will start with the tree and crack on from there.
Thanks
Jason
