Picked this up in hobbycraft since it fits the bill......2 of the paint schemes are for 'France Summer 1944' which means Normandy lol

Going to make a start once the Honda is done so probably tomorrow

Most likely wont use the figures....bit beyond me at the mo.....got some extra bits for stashed cargo

Obligatry sprue shots lol

Nice one Paul, as the Allies found you can never have too many Sherman’s :smiling4:

Good luck with your build :thumb2:

Geoff.

Interesting, it includes a gun breech and guard. Wish I’d known that some years ago when I ended up buying a complete Resicast 75 mm gun for that — I could just have asked if someone had these bits spare from this Tamiya kit :)

Anyway, the kit should go together well, so a good one for your return to building tanks, IMHO :) It’ll be interesting to see you build it.

Looks good.

Quick question: are all the weld seams recessed? It looks like they are, in which case Tamiya didn’t learn from their mistake with their original M4A3 kit :)

Also, if you want slightly greater accuracy, remove the weld line that runs from the front of the fuel filler cap to the hull side, as well as the one fore-and-aft between the driver’s hatches and down the glacis plate.

This is a pretty old kit....1987 is moulded in the hull..so I'm not expecting much

As for accuracy .......it's near enough for me :smiling6:

1987 is probably from when they reworked the original kit, that was from 81 off the top of my head. This version is late 90s, I think?

As for accuracy, probably best to stay away from wanting too much of that anyway with this kit ;) The hull front details look like those of an M4A4 to me, but with the length, engine deck, etc. of an M4 :)

Best approach there is Paul. Obsessing about minutiae can drive you bats unless it’s your thing. Just imagine it’s named after Sherman Tecumseh Potter rather than William Tecumseh Sherman and you’ll be fine ;)

Hull together and turret done.....ready to start painting tomorrow

Made the booboo of fitting the skirt bit before attaching the two hull bits together.....caused a bit of drama....glad i sorted it now cos my original plan was to paint lower and upper hulls and then join them once the tracks had been fitted.....realised i wouldnt have been able to fit the drive sprockets.....which wouldnt have been a problem if i had decided not to fit the optional skirt!! Doh!

Done now anyway....let the bodging continue.......sorry for dodgy pics......light was going and im using camera phone.....flash made it horrible20240618_193101.jpg20240618_193035.jpg

Looking good there :) Those sand shields are indeed something to watch out for, glad you fixed it in time. Though I suspect you’ll also have trouble fitting the idler wheel like this …

Sitrep time....bare with me on this

Not got much done and what i have im not happy with

Hottest week of the year and ive got a chest infection :rolling: feel as rough as a badgers bum ....and thats had an impact on my progress with the sherman

Sherman had the flollowing....clear coat....decals....clear coat to seal them....blackish wash

When i took some pics it showed up a few things i hadnt noticed in natural light......the wash turned out a bit too dark so i gave it a going over with white spirit and a stiff brush......helped a little but i still think ts too dark.....im out of practice lol........second thing that showed up was i hadnt got good coverage of the bogies when i painted them......showed up very thin......i wasnt going to do much weathering but i thought quickest solution was to add some mud.......first time ive used revel pigments....not as good as mig/ammo etc.....wont even wash off lol......so now im thinking of adding some more to the skirty bit above the tracks......but not much cos it spreads everywhere....a little does go a long way!!......then i can get to the bit i like.....stowage! 20240630_113956.jpg

Looks great :thumb2:

Aren’t we always our own biggest critic  I think you’ve done a very good job :smiling4:
