This will be my entry to the Tamiya Xmas GB (Thanx Paul).

Its a Tamiya 1:48 scale German WW2 half track, in winter camo, with two figures.

As I've not done a winter/snow/frosty model before, so this will be a first for me, and I think it may deserve a little vignette/dio to go with it, some sort of nice snowy/winter scene, not decided yet, but I'm sure we can cobble something together.

My first proper "big" build (eg: 1:35 scale) when I returned to the hobby, after doing a few 1:72 scale guinea pig models, was a Revell German Half Track, and although I thought it was good at the time, looking back now it was not that great TBH, Lol, but hey I was still new and still learning. So, I reckon I need another crack at a half track, I actually have two in the stash, this one and also a Tamiya 1:35 German halftrack with Rommel figure, etc. But I decided on this smaller one as I fancy a go at the winter look.....

Box art and destructions.

A couple of the extra figures I now have to hopefully enhance the little dio I will be doing with this build.
I have a couple more on order, but they have not arrived yet, plus there are two figures with the original Tamiya kit, so I will have a few to choose from....

Have more figures for this now, 3d resin printed, german 1:48 soldiers in winter gear, so should suit the little dio I intend doing for this one, they finally arrived from China...

And now have all the materials I need for the snow effects, think I may need to do a separate diorama thread for this one when it gets started...

As this one is so small (1:48), I think that I may try and do a lot of the painting just using my AK paint pens and see how it goes?
Once I get to the final dio stage, I will then be giving it all a mist coat of flat white to simulate ice/frost.

Lol, yeah I don't hang about!
With this one I've decided to not prime it, so that saves some time, stick with the yellow original colour, but thdn layet add a mist coat of white to simulate ice/frost as it will be in a winter diorama. Using the AK paint pens speeds things up as well as they dry really quick, so can add several coats in short space of time.

Bit more progress....
Did not show sprues out of the bags at the start, I've a;reday started, but they here they are currently.

Heres the AK marker pens that I'm using.....

Some more bits painted, started on the two included figures, and sadly noticed that the figures I have bought are a bit bigger than 1:48 scale, but not by much! So I'm only going to use one of the 3rd party figures and have it placed away from the other two figures on the final dio, so hopefully the size discrepency will not be noticeable.
Went over the track wheels again as I stupidly did them in flat black, but the AK pens do have a tyre black rubber, so redid them and also did the front wheel tyres.
Then I redid the internal seat covers as they were a bit too red for me, so I used a slightly lighter brown.

Lastly I painted up a fair few bits on the accessory sprue, ready for attaching later.

Great work Peter, coming along nicely 👍.
The AK markers are a great tool for speeding things up, I have a couple of the small sets and they work well.

Quick start Peter, I think you will be first post the post at this rate 😊

Those pens are great for quick work too, they save a lot of time compared to traditional painting.

Geoff.

I have built a couple of 1/48 scale models. It's a nice compromise scale especially if a dio is planned. The overall size can be kept more manageable.
Off to your usual speedy start.
