To John i think. When you want to send a PM now, is it the start a conversation on the members profile ?
 
You are correct Ian.

One thing to watch out for, there is an option button at the bottom. "Lock conversation" Erm don't expect an answer if you press that. It prevents people from replying. LOL

Its for when you call someone a plonker and don't want an answer, or when you've had enough of someone replying :) :) :) :)
