There getting few and far between Jim. Very sad to say as if it never happened they act like they can’t mention the liberations like VE Day a day or 2 late if at all. If they had their freedoms striped from them I bet they would start remembering what those young men and women did over there and in the islands.
RiP Sir and to an ever decreasing generation of heroes.
It was apparent when watching some UK based quiz shows how little some of the generations from the 80's onwards aren't aware of the sacrifices previous generations have made for their freedoms!!

Quite simply, I think the reason why a lot of kids no nothing about the sacrifices made, is that it's not taught in schools. I took history up the age of 16 in the late 80s and we never got as far as WWI, My daughter took history at school until she was 18 and only got to WWII (and Korea and Vietnam) when she did her A-level history! I don't mean it's not taught as a political anti-war thing, they just never get to it by the time most kids leave school - and that's ONLY if they choose to study history.
I've said for years that 'modern history' i.e. Everything from the start of the First World War, should be a compulsory subject along with Maths, Science and English. We seem to be turning out generation after generation of kids that have no idea why the world is the way it is today.

Both of my daughters were taught about both WWI, WWII in school and some help from me also. We live in the country very small communities where values are still important but it’s slowing fading I’m afraid. Both of my Daughters are now School teachers I’m sure if permitted by there schools they will educate about those wars.
That's excellent Lee - You obviously have a better curriculum in US schools! It would be great if they could pass their knowledge on.
