I had thought about buying this one as a first foray into aircraft building - thank heaven I didn't because my patience levels are far lower than yours Vaughan!Good luck with the rest of the build.

Cheers.

Patrick
Patrick, I think the thing is that the overall detail is very good it's just the amount of flash that is a concern considering the moulds are less than a year old. I didn't post this image before but look at the flash around the exit for the exhaust stacks it was almost as thick as the surrounding plastic. Anyway onwards and upwards I'm working on the undercart so will post some more progress soon.

Here's the latest update spinner is complete sprayed a light green which I mixed myself using model colour yellow and angel blue with a touch of white prop blades have been added which needed careful alinement as the tabs were removed to facilitate the removal or the unwanted seam. The drop tank has been sprayed and decals applied and weathered. Undercart still to have hoses added but I'm getting there. Please excuse the order of the photos still haven't got the hang of changing them.

Great work Vaughan. The sub assemblies look excellent and the airframe itself looks very sharp in the background.

Looking very good indeed

Excellent and clean paint job Vaughan.

The "Keine Bombe" is genial!! 500 or 250 kg? :D

Polux it's a drop fuel tank not a bomb with a 300l fuel capacity.

'Keine Bombe' means 'Not a Bomb'. It was intended for the local German population who might find the tank. The other message only partially visible in Vaughan's photograph offers a 5 RM reward for returning the tank to a police station or airfield. Another message made it clear what the tank was. 'Achtung! Kraftstoffbehalter' (Achtung! Fuel Tank).

You can imagine that with a surprisingly large number of allied bombs raining down on Germany failing to explode, the civilian population would be very suspicious of anything that fell near them. The messages in German on the drop tanks were an effort to allay these fears and, together with a reward, help the Luftwaffe recover drop tanks for re-use. 5 RM was a decent reward. A German worker earned about 25-30 RM per week. A Volkswagen Beetle, just before the war, cost 990 RM.

Edit: Completely forgot to say just how good that's all looking. Really good progress :)

Cheers

Steve

I'm really looking forward to doing my one now.... o_O

It looks to me that you are beating it into shape. Looking and the amount of sprueflash I would say that the tool was now cleaned correctly before the run. I doubt that it has worn so badly in such a short time.

I think Polux was thinking Kliene a small difference (see what I did there)..

I just had a look at mine and the flash is minimal. Sorry V.

That spinner is ace Vaughan! Your He-162 build is proving very helpful & I've no doubt this one will do the same!

Thanks Guys, Ian no need to be sorry mine must have been that Friday or Monday morning shift. Patrick, Trey I think I've got the hang of the spinner decal, no touching up like on the Fw190 a while back, but it was a challenge all the same.

It's been a while nearly a month but you can't sit in doors on a nice sunny day and we've had a few lately. Anyway here's a small update. I think the pictures are self explanatory so here they are. next up I will start on the splinter camo. The canopy is all but masked so will post some images soon.

Well worth the wait Vaughan. I'm really looking forward to seeing you finish this new 'affordable' kit. I know the finish you give it will really show it off.

Can't say I blame you for enjoying the weather and the break certainly hasn't dulled your modelling skills! Brilliant work on the U/C and the yellow wing tips suggest a scheme with a splash of colour. This is gonna be one great Gustav'

Cheers
