Well I have decided to bite the bullet and have a go at this one. It is an old kit that I have had in my stash for a good few years. I am already going to have a problem as the front clear part is missing so I feel a bit of scratching coming on. I have tried sourcing this bit but with no luck hence the scratch build. Apart from that the kit looks pretty straight forward with not to many pieces. It has decals for 2 units and won't decide wich one to do until I begin the paint scheme.

Thanks guys as you say should be interesting! As I have never scratch built a cockpit glass but will give it a good go

Defo a blast from the past and you don't see many made up, nice one, should be a very interesting build despite your scratching problem.

Looks like an old Monogram kit.Does it have raised panel lines?.Shouldnt be too difficult to crash mold a new windscreen.Ive only done it once myself.Took quite a few attempts before I got a canopy I was happy with.Look forward to seeing this one progress Terry.

Yes Dave it does have the old raised panel lines. I don't think it will take to long to knock together and then I will do the canopy

I started the office giving the tub a coat of aircraft grey and the seat frames. I then did the instrument panels different to how I would usually do them. As the raised details were really good I painted the panels with a coat of aluminium. Once dry I coated them with matt black. To bring out the detail I used a fine grade finishing cloth stuck to a stiring stick. This was then gently rubbed over the detail areas back to the aluminium. I then put gloss varnish in the dials before going on to paint the buttons.Some of the detail painting close up doesn't look great but looking at it normally it looks ok. I then went on and started the pilots wich can be seen in the office unfinished

It is a lot easier than dry brushing Dave. That said it depends on how good the detailing is. For an old kit that side of it is very good.

I knew what he meant . Once I have the reference pics printed I will probably cut thin strips of plastic angle for the outer frame then some thin sheet for the middle. I have some clear set aside to cut and play around with

Today I have put the office in place and stitch up the fuselage sides. Also in place is the front intake fans and the belly tray.

Just notice the cocpit tub is on a bit of a lean.
