I picked this up at the Peterborough show at the weekend. It is the Takom Sd.Kfz.250/3. The box artwork represents the vehicle used by Field Marshall Rommel "Greif" or Griffon other versions of the vehicle can be made including the "Ardler" or Eagle.

The vehicle itself met the brief for an armoured half track to provide support signals, forward observation and scouting in support of tanks as requested by the German Inspectorate for motorised troops in 1939. it was powered by a 100hp Maybach 6 cyl water cooled 4.17 litre HL 42 TRKM petrol engine. Linked to a Maybach SRG 102 semi auto gearbox providing 7 forward and 3 reverse gears giving a top speed of 75kph (47mph)

The Greif was a standard vehicle upgraded with radios, aerial frame and extra Jerry cans.

The kit itself

On opening the box you are presented with 16 grey sprues including 2 that contain a drive and a figure of Rommel. They are beautifully moulded with no flash and very fine detail. Also in the box are 1 clear sprue, 1 small sheet of etch, 1 length of copper wire and a sheet of decals with choices for 5 vehicles.

The instructions are presented in an A5 sized booklet.

Hope you can join me.

cheers

Well I don't like this kit. It is so well made and the detail is superb it is leaving me nothing to tweak.

Apologies for not posting much recently but not had a lot of time at the bench. Suspension arms torsion bars and internal bracing have been done as has the front suspension and axle.

I found a little bit to tweak, the track tensioners have been drilled out and the cross hole has also been drilled out. And a chain has been added to the tow hook.

Everything seems so small after working on the big scale Kettenkrad. I mean this thing is small. This kit will put Miniart to shame for the amount of tiny parts used to make up an assembly they are really testing the eyesight and tweezers.

Next up the drivers compartment.

Although this is an excellent kit, I am not feeling the love for it and the mojo is suffering. That said I have done a bit more. The drivers compartment and hull floor have been fitted.

The compartment was replaced with some brass sheet and plastic sheet and the fire extinguisher was scartched from some plastic rod and some spare etch from the bits box.

this will be painted before assembly. Next up the radio sets.
