I can actually relate to that Dave!!Slightly along those lines - I met a flat-earther, in South Africa ( a genuine Boer! ), convinced that the earth was flat, no amount of argument could convince him otherwise - I was an officer in the MN at the time, and I just couldn't see how any sane person could believe this..............( having done several round- the-world trips ). What really floored me was his explanations for the sun rising/setting, and the need for an international date line. He spoke in English, but it might as well have been Klingon for all the sense I could make of it! I suppose drinking half a bottle of Oude Meester brandy didn't help!!
Dave
By today's standards, we all had drink problems, and I guess that most of us showed signs of neuroses and abnormal behaviour................ but no-one having told us this, we went on regardless.I can actually relate to that Dave!!
My Old man joined the Merchant Navy having left School at the age of 14 with no qualifications whatsoever back in about 1959,he was on Ocean going Tugs out of Devonport as basically a deck hand, spent about 10 years at sea if my memory serves,
Thing is,when I started my apprenticeship in said Dockyard,in '82, discovering bikes, maids and booze,I asked him why he didn't drink at all. His answer was...
...Son,if you'd lived your life since a mere boy at sea, trying to keep up with the old lags getting hammered in port, mostly drinking various versions of Brandy/Wiskey, then you'd never want to see a bottle of alcohol again!! :smiling3:

You’ve got to feel sorry for them though. Every year they have a huge worldwide Christmas bash planned in Sidcup, and for some unknown reason the Australian flat earth society just doesn’t turn up……Dave, i recently deleted my tic toc account because of the arguments i was having with flat earthers! Some of them spent 20000 dollars on specialist equipment to prove it was flat and actually proved it was round and then said the equipment must be faulty, you cant win an argument with them, just say yeah course it is mate and walk away lol.
I'm not so sure it was really Dave,By today's standards, we all had drink problems, and I guess that most of us showed signs of neuroses and abnormal behaviour................ but no-one having told us this, we went on regardless.
The one event I can remember was what was called a 'sticky' session - it only occurred in port, for obvious reasons - usually a port with nothing worth going ashore for. A group of you would gather in the bar & each would select a bottle of liqueur, the top/corks would be discarded and you would proceed to empty the bottle -this could take several hours, and we would have dropouts, either unconscious, or nausea related. They'd be verbally abused until interest was lost............ I could manage Cointreau & Drambuie ( in shandies! ), but my downfall was Tia Maria! I was rather ill & had to drink tea for a week or so, as the smell of coffee made me gag! It all sounds very unhealthy now, but we were all pretty young, fit and doing a strenuous, stressful job.
Dave
Indeed, ask Mr Race!won't even drink Milk!!![]()
Indeed!! No arguments from me!BTW.. It's completely OBVIOUS that we've ALL got it wrong  ...
THIS is what the earth really looks like....

Its because they all fell off being upside down and all :tears-of-joy:You’ve got to feel sorry for them though. Every year they have a huge worldwide Christmas bash planned in Sidcup, and for some unknown reason the Australian flat earth society just doesn’t turn up……
