When I built their 1/32 Aircobra and after building the Fiat G50bis I vowed never to buy a Special Hobby kit again....

I really did not get on with their short-run style kits at all.  Poor instructions, poor engineering and poorly defined location points really turned me off them.

I stuck to this pledge with the Tempest and find I am not tempted at all by that one......

But then we get this, the 1/32 Yak 3 and there are just so few Soviet 1/32 WW2 kits.   The Trumpeter Mig 3 and Hobbyboss Sturmovik are about all there are from major manufacturers and I have built these and I want to build another Sturmovik.  Great kits and I really would like to have another Soviet WW2 warbird under my belt....

But should I bite the bullet and venture into a Special Hobby kit again?

This one is really tempting me and the Yak 3 is a superb looking fighter with some interesting schemes...  It also would fit in well in a display alongside Spitfire and Mustangs...

See what you think...

I would say go for it. Your "bad" models turn out better than my good ones LOL .

You have the know how, the tools and the patience. I was this and thought some one here will build that one. I was expecting it to be either Steve or Tony.....

Just looked at the review. It does look to be a very detailed and well moulded kit. Go for it.

Go for it barry ,as you say the soviet side of things has been woefully neglected in this scale , ive been waiting for years for a 1/32 la 5 or 7 , and the only yak we had was the very expensive montex resin kit. Im definitely tempted to get this special hobby one , it looks very nice in the review, cheers tony,

If it is anything like the Tempest it will be a very nice kit to build. I reckon you should take a swing at it, I'm sure the result will be a great 1/32 Soviet fighter :)

Cheers

Steve (feeling tempted myself!)

If Barry, Tony and Steve All took a swing at it you could do it as a GB.....Just need some one to suggest it....Then you can help each other out with the bumpy bits.

I would get the Special Hobby kit if I were you Barry. They have greatly improved their kits recently.Steves Tempest build highlighted how good their newer kits are.I know you have built a lot of Tamiya and Trumpeter kits. And anything else can seem a disappointment after those. I recently finished a 6 month build of the Tamiya 1/32 Mosquito. I'm now building Classic Airframes 1/48 Blenheim mk1, which is incredibly crude in comparison. But it's one I really want for my collection. And it's the only kit there is until Airfix hopefully decide to scale up their 1/72 kit. What I'm trying to say is I think it's worth Persevering with a crap kit if it's a type you really want in your collection.

My vote is yes. Go for it Barry :)

You are an excellent builder...so I'm sure that you will solve any problem that you can find on the way.....

And build a "less quality" model always help to you...to turn a better modeller, isn't it?

Recently in Airfix mag they had another strange 1/32 ( I think the PZL 2 ) or something by silver wings ( think ) and that looks a lovely kit/ aircraft and differant  even though there's a lot of resin in it (too  scary for me though)  sorry that's polish not Russian
