He’s building a full-size replica, then photographing it on a 35:1 version of his trousers to try and trick us …

retaining bands added to the packed shell


conduit added to the headlight from lead wire

small stop brackets added to stop the flaps drooping - these were made from sections cut from the etch fret


radio aerial base added - not the greatest but the best of three or four attempts. For some reason I just can't get the shape right - if I ever do I will need to make a mould!


starter handles made from various bits of aluminium tubing




six etch brackets added to the engine deck


I think that is the construction phase finally completed

Just the small matter of some paint now...........

and now boxed up ready for pouring rubber

the rest of it is ready for paint - the other rockets and fuel drums are stuck on bits of sprue

Cheers Steve - had three days off work with a knacked foot so had a bit more time than normal. Now, due to the end of the world being nigh, I am working from home due to being high health risk so should have more time on an evening as well - my commute will be cut from an hour+ to a couple of minutes :smiling3:

I bought myself a resin-casting kit a while ago, probably high-time I thought about giving it a go...

Simon, do you have a vacuum de-gassing pump for the resin or do you just rely on gravity?
I'm about to do some myself but it's been a loooong time

Neil - If possible I squeeze the air out the mould then gradually release as I pour so that the resin is sucked in. Then use a coffee stirrer or other prodding stick to work the resin into the mould corners and dislodge any small bubbles. Tapping and gently squeezing the mould sides can also help once the resin is in

I thought I would get a bit more moggelling time in on a night with this working from home lark but ended up working 11.5hrs and finishing at the time I normally get home!

However, in the words of Mick, I want it painted black.......


this simple task turned out to be anything but simple as my nearly new mig Ammo One Shot black primer had turned to jelly and wouldn't spray - anyone else had this problem?

I suspect it is down to the stupid flip top bottle not sealing correctly

had to open a new bottle so at least it got done in the end
