Simple and Small

@Tim Marlow has it 100% right. At this level of ability, the originality of that idea is completely breathtaking.

On a general note, re. the figure painting, what strikes me is that the super-high contrast on display really makes a massive impact. That's one thing I take away from these pictures - not saying I can achieve such high contrast effectively, but it indicates where I should be heading.
Quite a bit of OSL going on there Paul. It’s what makes the window lit impression work so well. I also believe competition painters go in for pushed contrast to make the figures pop better in what are sometimes poorly lit competition halls. Wish I could do it really ;)

Me too...

Richard, commiserations on your accident with the Belvedere. I bet your cats learnt a few new choice words.

Great shots there Richard. The WAAF with the dove shadow is pure genius. I could probably build a reasonable facsimile of that dio with pictures and instructions, but coming up with the original idea is utterly beyond me. Every now and then something like this elevates modelling from artisan to art and I’m just grateful I could see it.
You're welcome Tim and glad I could share it with you.

What got me gobsmacked is these Chinese painters are relatively newcomers to get the results I could only dream of doing in such a short time. The bold high contrast was amazing to see first hand and usually comes alive with a light source. The metals were painted with blues, whites and greys with no metallic paint used
Wabble,
Congratulations and a well deserved Gold for your vignette, and not taking any of the plaudits away from those other magnificent bust/figure paintings, yours stood out as an original like the WAAF subject.. Again well executed and painted...
Wibble.
Thank you Wibble, idea I suppose so but I can't touch them when it comes to execution.

Cheers,
Wabble

Never got my head around non metallic metal painting. I know artists did it for many hundreds of years, but I can’t, even when following instructions or tutorials…….

Quite simply "awe inspiring". The quality of the work on show, including your own, is sublime. As was mentioned earlier this truly is "art".

Congratulations on your well deserved gold Richard, 'Bombs Away' is a superb diorama.
The pictures from the show are great, a very high standard of figure painting there.

I know what you mean Tim, not an easy task creating the imaginary lighting. I tried dabbling with the aluminium water bottle and cup holder for Bombs Away.

I'd have gone nowhere if I had joined the figure entries honestly, Jim.

Thank you Graeme, glad you like the pictures...there are more categories to show later.

Oops I put in a few angles of my Belvedere. Next will be ships.

Oh wow. The 771 NAS Sea King is amazing. And you have answered a question I had about the Buccaneer too. (It does show the vortex generators!!).
Truly brilliant show Richard. You only tease us with the few builds on here. You have some amazing models there. Amazing.

Fabulous stuff. The standard is ridiculously high isn’t it….
And it gets higher every year. This year there was quality and less quantity with lower entries in planes and dioramas.

And not enough time to look at everyone.
I was thinking exactly the same.
Many of us were taken back by the sheer quality of the entries this year.

Wabble.

Not as many as last year but they were good.

Richard, a hearty congratulations for a thoroughly deserved gong, even more impressive given the high standard of builds on show.

Thanks Scottie, I was sweating on seeing the competition...somebody must have accidentally pushed the bar level knob somehow. :smiling6:

I forgot to mention that there was a bar of displays showing anything related to the Mid-East conflict or Gaza in case an issue could flare up. This could have been the cause of the fewer entries in the aircraft and diorama categories.

Cheers,
Wabble
