Simple and Small

Well Wabble, I've waited a bit, till the fanfare died down, and have to say, I think it's all just 'Pidgeon Poo'!!! Personally, I think your vignette should have won the BOS, hands down. Of course, from looking at all the pics you posted, the competition was really tough. Just your idea to create something so simple, yet so detailed and telling a story, should have swayed the judges, my friend...

Also looking through the pics, I noticed that a lot of the larger figs and busts, had skin tones that were really so lifelike. There are some fantastic modelers on your side of the world, you included, and thank you so much for posting all the pics. A shame you didn't post any pics of dinner at a restaurant though. The food always looks so delicious...

A hearty congrats to you Buddy!!! Now........What's up next on the bench???

What a lovely reply Allen and thanks. I noticed one of the young guys from Taiwan taking pictures of my dio and struck up a conversation with him translated by his girlfriend. He wanted my FB contact and I showed him some of my builds and he showed his. That's when I knew I was over my head as he was one of the figure painters and his work was amazing. I asked if he had entered any and he showed me the three on display...these are the ones...

Every highlight is painted and not from the ballroom lighting. I love the tinge of blue on the black belt harness on the Machine Gunner.
I asked if he painted for any sculptors and he said no. I swear he could have done any box top art for any sculptors like Young Miniatures who incidentally gave me a bear hug when we met...big friendly Korean he is. Calvin Tan was absent this year though.

Sorry no pictures of the food we ate this time...busy scoffing them down. Don't know how many times I had prawn noodles(Penang Hokkien Mee) and fried rice vermicelli (Penang fried Kueh Teow) at the local stalls and coffeeshops. The Penang members hosted us to a Chinese dinner of Tofu stuffed in fish ball in tangy sweet and sour hot sauce, stir fried Hong Kong Kai Lan vege, Steamed fish Teoh Chew style, stewed Pork and Yam, fried battered Chicken in Marmite Sauce accompanied with white steamed rice.

The Chinese(first timers) and Taiwanese participants came in full force but some of the few prizes were taken by Thais, Vietnamese, Koreans, Filipinos, Indonesians, Japanese, Australian expats and our locals. A good mix and challenging. The Chinese contingent enjoyed themselves and will be back again next year.

Cheers,

Great story. Those figures are sublime. The tiger skin stands out in particular. There must be hundreds of hours work in each one of those busts.

Marmite is back...
Those models are rally stunning. At that quality level modelling is more a profession than a hobby. Thank you for sharing.

Wabble , sorry for not commenting before, great win and much deserved.
