Snow joke!

Hi Chris. I live on the edge of a village about 20minutes from Ayia Napa.
John.

Went to Cyprus for a 10 week detachment, staying at Akrotiri. Went around a few places including Pathos and Limmisol(?). Also went up Trudos on motorbikes. Lovely weather but not my cup of tea if i'm honest. I'm defo a temperate climate type of guy and i am probably one of the few that enjoys winter (for the most part).

Hi Alan, I have spent most of my life in the Near East and Middle East so I prefer this to cold weather any day. It's what you grow up with and are used to I guess.
John.

Suppose it is John. I've been turned against heat since being out in the gulf. 43 dec C and on top of a hot aircraft that's just landed did it for me. When i'm too hot and already stripped down then i cannot handle it. So i like the cooler/cold areas. I can always apply more clothing lol

I spent a lot of time in the Tropics in the 70s & 80s - it confirmed that I preferred a cooler climate!
Aqaba in 1975 or 76 I was working with our electrician, on cargo winches. You had to keep your spanners etc in a bucket of water - if you put them down on deck, you'd burn yourself picking them up! You had to wear a long - sleeved white boiler suit & a sunhat - company regulations to prevent sunburn! Still managed to get the backs of my hands toasted though! If you were going to work in one place for more than half an hour, you rigged an awning to give shade. Salt tablets were popped like Smarties - and you knew about it if you forgot to take them!
The good (?) old days..............
Dave

Keep that stuff away from the Ozark Foothills of Missouri but we’re supposed to get 1-3” this evening and tonight.

Ok when your a youngster, but no joke when you have to try to get to work or the shops .We will see if the forecast is right in the morning , hopefully not !

Picked up six inches overnight here in Montana.........seems to be contagious, don't forget your mask!! :tongue-out3: :tongue-out::tongue-out2::sick:

Dire forecasts here on the edge of the Cotswolds, but a few snow flurries yesterday & a heavy frost it looks like the same today............
Dave

Where I am there is not THAT much snow but what there is is getting blown into drifts by the strong winds. Been at around 12m/s three days straight! Grrr.
Some places are worse effected than others. Have heard some largish snow drifts here and there. In Denmark there is a disappointing trend for larger and more open fields. As smaller fields get bought up the first to go are the hedgerows and trees. Many fields are also open to the roads, so when it's windy there is nothing to break the wind anymore. The way our house sits, between fields no matter what way the wind blows we get it. (more so when it snows as well).

Snow in Cotswold would look picturesque and 20 degrees is really nice.

Recently we had a spot of cool temperature for two days at 21 degrees and everyone started wearing cardigans for those not used to this kind of thing. We're more towards mid 30's and higher nearly constantly and now the Chinese New Year weather is on us at 38 degrees straight...my lotus leaves are burnt.

Cheers,
Richard

We've had a bit of snow here in Rugby. Quite funny watching the muppets trying to drive up the hill outside our house - either going so slowly they lose momentum or trying to go so quickly they lose control. We've had one go up on the pavement outside our house, trying to take the corner as if the road was dry, and another hit the kerb so hard she burst her tyre. The number of people who seem to think that when the wheels spin they have to stand on the throttle is amazing!
Pete

Not surprising Pete. I tried to explain to my wife about how to use the gears to control torque and traction and she looked at me like I was barmy. No mechanical insight whatsoever!

Just seen the forecast for tomorrow and the next 24 hours. Heavy snow and gale force winds 30 cm of snow with drifting. A regular blizzard. And guess who has to go to the vets with two cats..... I might just cancell
