Spots on the Internet (2021)

Looks like British summer wear! Don’t think I’ve ever seen a diorama when it’s raining. Seen a railway layout done like it though….so know it can be done.

Have seen a dio with rain but instead of rain the surface puddles had the effect of rain dropping on it.

Cheers,
Richard

That was how the railway was done as well Richard, showing puddle splashes and roof/gutter drips and leaks, along with a grey backdrop and everything having a desaturated colouration and wet “sheen” finish instead of modellers matt. It was very good, looked just like a UK bank holiday weekend ;)

No idea how big these are in 1/350 - no idea what the market is for 1/350 buildings...............
Dave

They’d be something like 20 cm square and a little less than that tall, off the top of my head. Ah, the real thing is 70.5 m × 70.5 m × 39 m, so in 1:350 that would be 20 cm × 20 cm × 11 cm, approximately.

As for the scale: I would have made them in 1:300 or 1:285, at least those are wargames scales and so have plenty of figures and vehicles you could use with them. It's not as if you can use these to build a diorama with a 1:350 scale ship or something. Well, not a realistic one, anyway :)

Also, Takom missed an opportunity by providing only one set of markings for the Heiligengeistfeld tower: it’s now a hotel (or at least, plans were announced two years ago to make it one by this year; I can’t find if it actually is yet).

The sizes are written on the box fronts…..215 x 215 x 111 for the first and 234 x 234 x 113 for the second ;)

Takom are pulling a bit of a Hasegawa, though. What is the difference between Derfflinger and Lützow, other than markings? Oh, after close comparison of the box art: some railing-like things just behind the second funnel. The usual question that will never get a good answer: Why not do them in one kit?

Derflinger has tertiary armament on the superstructure behind the second turret, she should also have less secondary battery guns as one was removed to improve handling after sea trials. There are several other detail differences that may be more visible in plan view as well. Oh, and Lutzow was sunk at Jutland, whereas Iron dog survived a really bad mauling ;)
Yes they could have got all this in one kit. On the other hand, if you want to build both ships you’ll need two kits, so what’s the problem with buying one of each, rather than two of the same?

Not 1 350, swines, luv the look of the iron dog, one tough ship!
Bob,
if you really fancy 1/350 German battleships.....................

It also comes as other names, Markgraf, Konig, Kronprinz - just all slightly different fittings & markings!
Dave
edit - John has them in stock!

I’ve said it before, but I don’t see the sense this makes from the manufacturer’s point of view. They now have to have two sets of boxes, instructions and markings printed, do logistics for two kits, etc. while modellers — like you say — will simply buy two anyway if they want to build both.

The amount of Russian versions now available of the Katyusha is growing model wise.Looking at Wikipedia I found these.

  • ZIS-5 (truck),
  • ZIS-6 (truck),
  • GAZ-AA (truck),
  • STZ-5 (tractor),
  • T-40 (tank),
  • Studebaker US6 (truck),
  • Armored train car,
  • River boat,
  • Towed sledge,
  • Towed trailer,
  • Backpack (portable variant, so called "mountain Katyusha"),
  • ZIS-151 (truck, used after the war);
Note: There was also an experimental KV-1K – Katyusha mounted on KV-1 tank which was not taken in service.
Nice T100 , experimental version which was to become the KV1.
