Yes, it's a winch!

Although, why the odd shape/position isn't clear!
Dave
Seems mechanically unsound, putting a lot of leverage on the mounting of that support bar to the fuselage. I wonder what the winch capacity was?

Totally agree Pete...
.... I thought it was a bit iffy too.

Wow Lee, look at the state of the rubber tires in that museum shot Takom have included in the release note….definitely one for the super detailers there…..
Tim, it'll certainly keep someone busy for a while

From a newsletter from Arma Hobby................
Arma conducred a survey on their models, specifically the use of PE - " the fact that in subsequent model kits, we are able to mould better and better details in plastic, we will try to design our new kits so that there is no need to use photo-etched frets and we will rather give up on them."
Also a comment on the progress of 3D printing........
"We are currently conducting trials with 3D printing. We check how some details are created, such as exhaust pipes, seats with belts, bombs, etc. In the next Deluxe Set, including two Expert-Set-standard model kits and a huge decal, we will add two sets of such 3D prints. We will not offer them separately as we do not want to manufacture accessories. We consider them an add-on to enhance special sets (Deluxe, Limited Edition). If you need more accessories for our model kits, we recommend Aires, Eduard, Master and Yahu products, available in our webstore."
That's quite a commitment, about removing the need fot PE, and having 3D printed parts for detail shows that Arma are thinking forward.

That’s a really nice vignette, but what’s a Herbert like him doing in first class. ;). The planked internal detail is strange as well. The compartment would either be panelled in plywood or properly fitted out in mahogany. ;)
Are we you currently wearing a hooded waterproof garment , by any chance,Tim...?

Not right now, it’s in the cupboard……I have worn one in the past though. If I was wearing it I would also tell you that the wheel is wrong. That’s an eight spoke wagon wheel. It should be a Mansell solid wood wheel to better absorb track hammer :tongue-out3: .
In all seriousness, if anyone put out a military kit with those sort of pretty major inaccuracies it would be noted, so why not a railway carriage?

.... maybe because the people that put this sort of thing out probably think along the lines of,"They`re only Military modellers, they won`t notice,or know about, these inaccuracies,so it doesn`t matter". .......?
..... Just a thought!:thinking::rolling: ,

More likely it’s just taken from half remembered imagination Andy.……could also be that the sculptor wasn’t British and that this was the normal practice in their home country. British railways of the time were relatively plush compared to some countries.
I actually like the vignette, by the way. All I was trying to say was this needs a little work and references if you want it to be accurate, don’t just copy the box art.
The blue first class and red third class upholstery wasn’t a “standard” followed by all companies, but it was quite a wide convention in the days before universal literacy. The punters could distinguish red from blue even if they couldn’t read the words first and third.

Fair point, but I was only being facetious.
I don't buy this kind of thing anyway so I didn't pay much attention, but
actually Tim there are inaccuracies in the uniform and equipment as well...the back of the jacket is wrong, the side cap is worn very 'Pike', the kitbag is too small....
Not for me....

I like that a lot... Will definitely look out for that on the release,I'm rather getting into this plane building thing.... my previous inhabitions about this "dark art" of the modelling world are steadily disappearing!!
