The render appears to show it from an odd angle that makes it look circular, is my guess. I’ve seen another discussion about this, and the conclusion there is that it’s indeed elliptical.

However, I didn’t know the PaK 36 was a 7.5 cm weapon …

A bit like the fairy battle I think Richard. Cutting edge in its day, but its day went quickly. Not helped by the poor performance of US torpedoes at the time either…having to drop them at just over 100mph was a suicide mission.
