discussion Spray booth Question

Hi all. I was lucky enough to get an airbrush & compressor for crimbo, so now I'm trying to sort out where I can use it.

I'd kinda hoped to make up something myself, but don't really have anything suitable ( typical !! ), so I'm having to start from scratch. I added up the cost of the bits I'd need, and I reckon it's be around £30 - £35ish, whereas I can buy one of those portable jobs from Flea-bay for just over £50, which considering the lack of aggro, I'm considering.

So my question is, does anyone have any experience of spray booths, and would they recommend them?

I have used the EXpo. The one on Amazon and Ebay mostly.

They fold up if you have a space problem. They have a fan on the rear wall. This can be used in two ways. With just the recirculating filter. There are two filters. Problem is the paint spray will mostly be removed but the odours will not.

The second way and by far the best. An optional extra about £15 from memory. This is a duct which fits on the rear of the fan. The duct about 4" diameter. This folds into itself about a quarter of its length. the duct is about 4feet long. On the end it turns into a spade type end. Remove the thick filter on the back wall leaving the thinner one.Open the window and lock the spade end between the frames. Switch on the fan and it gets rid of the odours. Tis best though to also wear a nose filter with the correct filters. A lot depends on the type of paints to be used. Water based acrylics are 99% non toxic. Enamels are toxic.

I made a little bit more space recently and bought another unit as it is difficult with the larger models. Last fuselage airbrushed was 350mm long and the Expo single unit is 430mm long so a bit of a struggle. The second unit I bought fits on to the first. The twin walls in the middle are left folded down or as in my case I removed them. So you then one large unit and 2 fans. I made a chamber at the back to collect from both fans and then connected the duct to that. So now I have a very nice system.

Nice thing with the large space of the two together. I store airbrush cleaner, thinners, paints to be used and the airbrush cleaner container all in the two untis. That is all the dirty stuff is entrapped in the units.

From the sounds of things, this is the same as you have, and comes with the extension hose. So I'm assuming you have 2 of these joined together? I'm also assuming as you got another, they seem to do the job? I'm working with acrylics at the moment, but that may change, so I'd prefer to get the set up done to enable me to use them as well.

From the sounds of things, this is the same as you have, and comes with the extension hose. So I'm assuming you have 2 of these joined together? I'm also assuming as you got another, they seem to do the job? I'm working with acrylics at the moment, but that may change, so I'd prefer to get the set up done to enable me to use them as well. Yes that is the one Neil. SImple to join if you need two. No change for enamels as opposed to acrylics. Does the same job.

Amazing when I bought my first they were £75 plus £16 for the hose. They are a real bargain now. This is what my set up looks like. I line the roof and sides with blotting paper and change when a mess.

I got one of those for Christmas Neil and it works well.I have mine on a bench in the garage and just poke the end of the hose out of the window.Its certainly better than leaving the door open and spraying towards it like Ive been doing for years!.Only down side is its a bit small,so I can see why Laurie has joined 2 together.Im currently spraying a 1/48 Mosquito in it and it's ok for that.

Yeah, agree with Tony on that. Laurie's model space is like a hospital compared to mine.
